Stereophonics axe Australia gig after Kelly Jones falls ill

Welsh rockers the Stereophonics cancelled a Tuesday night (23Jul13) concert in Melbourne, Australia after frontman Kelly Jones was diagnosed with a respiratory infection.

The band was due to play at The Palace venue, but pulled out of the performance when Jones fell ill.

In a statement, the singer writes, "I regret, that due to a respiratory infection I will not be able to perform tonight in Melbourne. This is only the second show we have cancelled in 17 years and no one is more disappointed than I am not to be able to rock n' roll tonight."

Fans have been offered refunds.

Stereophonics' Film Project In The Works

Welsh rockers Stereophonics are marking their comeback by starting work on an ambitious film project.

The band is preparing to return to the charts with two new albums, due for release in 2013 and 2014, and they are also working on a series of short films to accompany the new music.

Frontman Kelly Jones reveals they are currently working out the best way to release the footage, and are even considering putting everything together into a feature film.

Rockers Stereophonics were chased by cops for two miles and had their tour bus searched on Sunday - after joking that they were pals with legendary drugs baron Howard Marks.

The Welsh chart stars were pursued by Canadian police when their driver failed to pull over following a parking violation.

After a two-mile chase, the band eventually spoke to the officials - but landed in even more hot water by name checking one of the world's most famous drug smugglers, fellow Welshman Marks.

Stereophonics Fight To Save Employees' Jobs

Rock band Stereophonics have been fighting to save the jobs of staff at their record label V2 - after the company merged with industry giants Mercury Records.

The Welsh rockers were so desperate to prevent employees from being axed, they made demands to their new label to keep team members on.

Frontman Kelly Jones says, "We've got to look at it as a positive. We were the first band V2 signed and of course it's complicated but we're looking forward to meeting a new team and have kept some people on, like our Scottish plugger Neil Adams."

Stereophonics front man Kelly Jones insists he has become a master at songwriting - because he has learned how to live with his imperfections. The singer admits writing his first record while high on marijuana - but he is now finding it easier to find inspiration for the band's new material.

He says, "The thing is knowing when to stop. you have to love the flaws or there's no point. The first record I produced, I thought I was Phil f**king Spector and put about 50 million overdubs in it. It was great fun - we were all stoned at the time and it all felt very relevant."

British rockers the Arctic Monkeys have been named the Best Act In The World at the Q Awards on Monday. The ceremony, which took place at London's Grosvenor House, also honored Paul McCartney and Kylie Minogue, who were lauded as Q Icon and Q Idol respectively.

Troubled singer Amy Winehouse triumphed in the Best Album category for her critically-acclaimed sophomore effort Back To Black - but was not at the ceremony to collect her award.

Late British music mogul Tony Wilson - who lost his battle with kidney cancer in August - was posthumously honored with the Q Hero award.


Stereophonics Rocker Hurt In Fight

Stereophonics frontman Kelly Jones had to be treated by medics after slicing his arm open during a fight with security guards at an award ceremony in London on Wednesday night.

Jones was reportedly thrown out of the Vodafone Live Music Awards after walking into the women's toilet. During a brawl with guards, Jones' arm was cut on a broken glass.

An ambulance was called and he was treated by paramedics on the street.

Earlier in the evening the Stereophonics performed at the bash at the city's Amika nightclub.

Stereophonics Drummer Back With A New Band

Ex-Stereophonics drummer Stuart Cable returns with a new band next month - four years after he was let go from the Welsh rockers. Cable was asked to leave Stereophonics in 2003, reportedly because he was spending too much time concentrating on his burgeoning career as a radio presenter.

His new band Killing For Company have landed a coveted support slot for The Who at The Liberty Stadium in Swansea, Wales on June 1st, and release their debut single Enemies three days later. Cable says, "The music is different to what I did with the Stereophonics. It's heavy but really anthemic."

Bullet for My Valentine took home best single for "Tears Don't Fall" at last nights 13th annual Kerrang! Awards. The awards ceremony, held in London, UK, was billed as a "twisted carnival" and featured a series of burlesque performances, with presenter Stuart Cable - Kerrang! radio host and former Stereophonics drummer - in the role of ringmaster.

B4MV have currently wrapped up their East Coast run of the Vans Warped Tour, and will headline the states in September before heading out with Iron Maiden.
