The Staple Singers were a gospel, soul and R&B singing group from Chicago. The group was founded by Roebuck “Pops” Staples and his children, Cleotha Staples, Pervis Staples, Yvonne Staples and Mavis Staples. The Staple Singers got their start singing in local churches in the Chicago area in 1948. 1952 saw the family sign a recording contract with United Records before moving on to Vee-Jay Records. While with Vee-Jay the family landed the hits, “Uncloudy Day” and “Will The Circle Be Unbroken.” From there the family signed with Checker Records, Riverside Records, and finally Epic Records in 1965.
