Bluesman Jimmy McGriff has died at a nursing home in New Jersey. He was 72. The organist, a former Philadelphia, Pennsylvania police officer, was a student of blues greats Jimmy Smith and Richard "Groove" Holmes.

Jazz musician Herman Riley has died of heart failure. He was 73. The saxophonist passed away at Brotman Medical Center in Los Angeles on April 14.
