Brittany's 'The Voice' Blog: Catching Up With...Dia Frampton!

November 22nd, 2011 11:40am EST
The Voice
Here's the latest on and around NBC's The Voice: Dia Frampton drops by, reviews of Javier Colon and Beverly McClellan's new albums, and the AMAs!

I start this week catching up with season 1 runner-up and Team Blake finalist Dia Frampton, whose new album Red will hit stores two weeks from today, on December 6. Dia was kind enough to chat with me about The Voice and how her life has been post-show.

How much did things change for her after The Voice? "A lot," she confided, adding that she started "right after [the finale], literally the next day, to write songs and record, because I was ho...

Music Talk: The Simple Success Of Simple Plan

November 15th, 2011 11:00am EST
Simple Plan
The secret to Simple Plan's success is not all that complicated. If you ask guitarist Sebastien Lefebvre, it really does just come down to something as - ahem - simple as the music.

"We started out, [when] we were opening for other bands, it was just about getting out on stage and having fun," he told me as the band was preparing for last night's show at the SWU Festival in Sao Paolo, Brazil. "Now, obviously, we've been lucky enough to have a few albums."

The Canadian pop-punk band is currently on tour in support of their fourth studio album, Get Your Heart On! The disc is not only catc...

Music Talk: The Week In Tunes

November 8th, 2011 1:00pm EST
Marianas Trench
Last week was a busy one in Southern California music. I spotted Marianas Trench, Simple Plan, Brian Culbertson and Maroon 5.

Wednesday night, Canadian pop-punk band Marianas Trench arrived at San Diego's House of Blues. (You might remember them from my recent interview with bassist Mike Ayley.)

It was the first United States tour for the band, who seemed to be having a fantastic time on stage. If I hadn't known it was their first American tour I would never have guessed. They carried themselves very well, and despite only playing an opening set, left a great impression.

Here's lead sing...

Q&A: Marianas Trench's Mike Ayley

September 28th, 2011 2:27pm EDT
Marianas Trench
You may not have heard of Canadian pop-punk rockers Marianas Trench, but you should remember their name. After enjoying plenty of success in their native country - they garnered three MuchMusic Video Award nominations this year - they're on their way to take the United States by storm.

They've appeared as themselves on ABC Family's Kyle XY, and their music has been heard on the CW hit The Vampire Diaries (the song "Cross My Heart" was included in season 1) and Degrassi: The Next Generation.

As the band prepares to release their third album, Ever After (set for November 29), and head...

Simple Plan
Simple Plan star Chuck Corneau has taken the ultimate revenge on his ex-girlfriend - he has written a song about her infidelity.

The rocker admits the band's latest track Your Love is a Lie is based on his relationship with a cheating partner - who he is refusing to name.

He tells Gigwise.com, "It's a song about falling in love with someone and being surprised and very disappointed that they'd do something like that to you when you give them your heart.

"I think a lot of people feel very betrayed. We wrote a song and it feels good to write about it, because at the time that's...

Jack Johnson Stays On Top As Grammy Stars Surge

February 21st, 2008 2:25pm EST
Jack Johnson
Jack Johnson has scored a second week at the top of the U.S. albums chart - just managing to steal the number one spot from a surging Amy Winehouse. The British soul singer's success at the Grammy Awards led to an increase in sales of her 2006 album Back To Black, which jumped from number 24 to a new chart high at two.

But 180,000 sales of Jackson's Sleep Through The Static was enough to keep the surf-rocker on top.

Album Of The Year Grammy winner Herbie Hancock's River: The Joni Letters also storms up the chart from 159 to five, with 54,000 sales.

Grammy performer Alicia K...
