Silverchair Kaput!

Australian rockers Silverchair have split after almost 20 years together. The trio, consisting of Daniel Johns, Chris Joannou and Ben Gillies, have decided to part ways after losing their "spark" as a band.

A statement posted on the band's Facebook page reads, "We formed Silverchair nearly 20 years ago when we were just 12 years old. Today we stand by the same rules now as we did back then... if the band stops being fun and if it's no longer fulfilling creatively, then we need to stop."

Justin Timberlake, Fergie and Foo Fighters will go head-to-head at the 2008 MTV Australia Awards. The artists will battle it out in the Music Video of the Year Category with 50 Cent, Delta Goodrem and Timbaland.

Timberlake and Foo Fighters will also compete to win the Live Performer Award alongside Lupe Fiasco and Juliette & the Licks. Goodrem was also nominated for the Australian Artist Music Award with Silverchair, Sneaky Sound System and The Veronicas.

The awards will be handed out on April 26th at the Australian Technology Park in Sydney.

Delta Goodrem Breaks Australian Music Record

Delta Goodrem has entered the Australian Recording Industry's (ARIA) record books - after becoming the first artist to win 12 Number One Chart Awards. The "Lost Without You" singer landed two gongs at the ceremony on Thursday, which honors Australian recording artists who score number one hits on their home territory in the previous year.

Other double winners at the Sydney event included Kylie Minogue, Missy Higgins and Silverchair. Pop sisters The Veronicas landed their first ARIA Number One Chart award for "Hook Me Up."

New Zealand rockers Silverchair have been forced to reschedule a handful of dates on their U.S. tour to allow front man Daniel Johns to recover from laryngitis. The rocker caught the throat infection on the long flight from Australia to Los Angeles earlier this week and has been told to rest by doctors after struggling through a performance on The Tonight Show With Jay Leno on Tuesday.

Silverchair rocker Daniel Johns has been forced to retract claims he made in an interview that he smoked marijuana with his wife Natalie Imbruglia, Bono, and an Australian politician. Johns claimed the four had used the drug while listening to demos of his band's latest album Young Modern.

Australian Supergroups Team Up On Tour

Australian super groups Silverchair and Powderfinger are to team up for a joint tour of their homeland. The rockers will play 21 concerts across Australia, beginning with a show in Newcastle at the end of August.

In an effort to make sure the two groups can play major cities and regional towns, they'll perform in a large custom-designed 12,000-capacity tent in places where there isn't a big enough venue to house the show.
