Horace SilverYou Gotta Take a Little Love Release Date 1969 01 10 Label Blue Note Rating: ![]() One of the final Horace Silver Quintet Blue Note albums, this somewhat forgotten LP, dedicated to "the Brotherhood of Men," is an instrumental set that introduced six new compositions by the pianist/leader (none of which caught on as standards) along with Bennie Maupin's &"Lovely's Daughter." Maupin (on tenor and flute), trumpeter Randy Brecker, bassist John Williams, and drummer Billy Cobham comprise Silver's excellent late-'60s hard bop group. [In 2007 Blue Note reissued You Gotta Take a Little Love in a remastered Rudy Van Gelder edition.] Scott Yanow, Rovi |
