Does The 'Fifty Shades Of Grey' Soundtrack Deliver?

February 11th, 2015 11:00pm EST
Fifty Shades of Grey Soundtrack
Fifty Shades of Grey isn’t just a book or a motion picture – it’s a movement! No the presence of Fifty Shades of Grey isn’t changing something of macro importance, but it certainly expounds upon sex in ways many have never experienced - understatement. That said, the relationship between Ana and Christian is not the focus here – it is the accompanying original motion picture soundtrack. Such a bold film requires a soundtrack to match, and overall, the ‘nifty’ Fifty Shades of Grey soundtrack does the job.

Fifty Shades of Grey mixes old and new throughout its course. It opens soundly wit...

Check Out Kristen Wiig's Insane 'Chandelier' Grammy Dance Moves
With Sia performing at last night's Grammys, something weird was to be expected. Kinda like how Sia's normally seen in wearing black veils, giant mop wigs or paper bags where her face should be.

But with last night's performance of her hit song "Chandelier," Sia took "weird" and rocketed it off to a faraway dimension, populated only by bizarre dancing mannequins.

"Chandelier" began after a brief introduction by Shia LaBeouf (incoherent as always) and opened with regular Sia dance partner Maddie Ziegler and another woman in a room full of musty brown clutter.

You might have thought that s...

Grammy Awards Red Carpet Fashion - The Best & Worst

February 9th, 2015 8:51am EST
The Best & Worst Dressed At The 2015 Grammy Awards
Fashion at the Grammy Awards is always entertaining. It's a chance for celebs to have a little fun with their style without being constrained by the "rules" often dictated by more formal award shows.

The stars came out in full force at the 57th Annual Grammy Awards in Los Angeles, Calif., on Sunday night. Miley Cyrus toned down her usual "look at me" style by donning a Alexandre Vauthier LBD. Yes, she bared some skin, but she looked sexy, not over the top.

Rihanna also impressed in a strapless, cotton candy pink Giambattista Valli gown. The dress was ginormous, but she made it work.

'Saturday Night Live': Kevin Hart Does Not Disappoint With Musical Guest Sia

January 18th, 2015 8:58am EST
'Saturday Night Live' Recap: Kevin Hart Does Not Disappoint With
The recurring sketch-lite Season 40 had its most original episode yet for the first show of 2015, with not a single repeat bit or character, save for Kate McKinnon’s Justin Bieber impression. The best seasons tend to have a decent mix of recurring and original material, so while it is nice to see the “SNL” team coming up with plenty of fresh ideas, they might be wearing themselves too much. Luckily, Kevin Hart was on hand to host for the second time, and there are not too many other comedians who can keep the energy level up like he can, and he did not disappoint in that department. Mean...

Why Is Sia Apologizing For Her Latest Video?

January 8th, 2015 11:36am EST
Pop star Sia Furler has made a public apology for the controversial content in her new video, "Elastic Heart."

The Australian singer took to Twitter on Wednesday to address those who were offended by the video, which features actor Shia LaBeouf in a cage with 12-year-old Dance Moms star Maddie Ziegler, who appeared in her "Chandelier" video. The actor wears only tight, flesh colored underwear in the clip, which was choreographed by Ryan Heffington.

Through interpretive dance, LaBeouf and Ziegler represent two "warring self states" of Sia, who defended her choice of stars for the video.

'Dancing With The Stars' Results: Tavis Smiley No More As He Exits The Ballroom

'Dancing With The Stars' Results: Tavis Smiley No More As He Ex
Despite a dance that was full of life, it was goodbye for activist and PBS journalist Tavis Smiley and Sharna Burgess. Although Smiley tried to stay on track, his promotional schedule for his latest book, "Death of a King" detailing Martin Luther King's last year was just too much for him to handle alongside his dance duties for the show.

Monday evening's show gave those that fell flat last round a chance to redeem themselves with a theme night, "My Jam Monday." Topping the leaderboard were Lea Thompson and Artem Chigvintsev and following a close second were Janel Parrish and Val Chmerkovs...

7 Women Who Are Changing The Music Industry

August 2nd, 2014 10:00am EDT
7 Women Who Are Changing The Music Industry
Last year, Alanis Morrisette admitted many radio stations wouldn't play "You Oughta Know" off her 1995 album, Jagged Little Pill. The reason? They already had two women in rotation on the radio. For years, the music industry has presented its own set of challenges specific to women. Whether it's executives telling how a young pop star should sex up her act to not being taken seriously by critics within their music genre. There are, however, a group of women who are using their voices and their music as an opportunity to push back and change what's considered the norm within the music indust...

Sia Tops Billboard 200 in Sluggish Sales Week: This Week in Music

July 17th, 2014 8:30pm EDT
Sia Tops Billboard 200
Describing album sales as merely mediocre this week would be quite the understatement. Sales were nothing short of horrific, abysmal, and subpar. That said, Australian singer/songwriter Sia experienced a ‘good’ week contextually as her album 1000 Forms of Fear debuted at #1. The less optimistic news for the industry itself is that the #1 album only sold 52,000 copies. Think about it – the top album in the United States only 52,000 people bought!

No albums came close to the 100,000 copies mark this week – sheesh! Last week, only Trey Songz’s Trigga was able to get over the 100,000 cop...

Australian Singer Sia Lands First U.S. Number-One Album

July 17th, 2014 9:01am EDT
Australian singer/songwriter Sia's "1000 Forms of Fear" is number-one on the Billboard 200. The disc shot to the top spot while the singer promoted the work in an unsual way - by performing "Chanelier" with her back to the camera with dancers around her.

Sia's previous releases have failed to make the top 20. She is the niece of singer-songwriter Colin Hay of Men at Work.

In other Billboard news, the soundtrack to "Frozen" came in at number two, while Sam Smith's "In The Lonely Hour" holds at three. Rounding out the top five are Ed Sheeran's "X" and Trey Songz's "Trigga."

10 Popular Music Songs Penned By Other Artists

November 17th, 2013 1:08pm EST
The music industry is one business where it is common for music artists to either meet up and share musical talents or acknowledge the song writing skills of other music artists musically.  Check our following ten popular song picks penned by other music artists.

'The Voice' - BattleBots Part Two Recap May 17, 2011

May 18th, 2011 2:03pm EDT
the voice
Get set for another round of mega duets, as Part Two of the Battle Round begins! The celebrity coaches Cee Lo Green, Blake Shelton, Adam Levine and Christina Aguilera choose another pair of vocalists from their team, and the nail biting begins! Host Carson Daly seems even more self-effacing this week, if that’s even possible.

Team Cee Lo: Nakia and Tje Austin were chosen to sing Ne-Yo's "Closer." It’s a hair-fest, as both have huge mops of hair, and face fur to match. At the blind audition, Nakia actually braved Cee Lo’s own “Forget You,” and seems to have appropriated the singer’s indoor...

We definitely like the pop star's choice of a simple black cocktail dress and dazzling diamond necklace, but we're not so keen on her red and black arm tattoo. What do you think?

The star recently confirmed her upcoming album will be released in March. It's her first full-length studio album since 2006's "Back To Basics." She released a greatest hits collection in 2008. The untitled CD will involve c...

The Bird And The Bee Announces Digital-Only Release Of Their New Valentine's Day EP

February 10th, 2008 9:00am EST
the bird and the bee
The past year has been an eventful one for the bird and the bee, the Los Angeles band made up of singer Inara George and multi-instrumentalist/producer Greg Kurstin.

The Los Angeles Times named them one of "10 Bands on the Horizon for 2007" and their self-titled debut, a deliciously subversive indie-pop album, was released in January to rave reviews. The New Yorker called it "a sure delight" and Rolling Stone described their distinct sound as "audible sunshine." Their music could be heard on shows like Grey's Anatomy, and they toured throughout the United States, Europe and Japan, bo...

With four studio albums to date under her belt, many may be familiar with her single "Breathe Me" released in 2006, which was featured on HBO's Six Feet Under, bringing considerable more exposure in the U.S. Sia has also lent her voice to many recording projects for the Electronic dance act Zero 7.

Her style musings on "Some People Have Real Problems,"...

Sia to Preview New LP on Fall U.S. Tour

October 17th, 2007 2:40pm EDT
Sia is back with her stunning vocals and direct, clever lyrics on her second full-length release, Some People Have REAL Problems. She'll give audiences a glimpse of what the album holds when she hits the road for a tour of the states this fall.

Sia may be best-known from her days with Zero 7 (Simple Things, When It Falls and The Garden), and her solo track "Breathe Me," which was featured in the final episode of Six Feet Under, but one listen to her striking vocals leaves one feeling as if Sia is a beloved old friend.

Suzanne Vega To Release 'Beauty & Crime' July 17

June 9th, 2007 4:00pm EDT
Suzanne Vega
Over 20 years into her storied career, singer Suzanne Vega shows that she remains one of the freshest voices in popular music today with the release of Beauty & Crime, her seventh album.

Revolving around the theme of New York, the city where Vega was raised and still lives, the 11 original songs on Beauty & Crime remind those of us who are old enough to remember "Tom's Diner" (complete with its myriad remixes) why we fell in love with Suzanne in the first place. For a younger generation, this new collection of songs fits in nicely among a the latest crop of artists (Feist, Sufjan Stev...
