Wayne Shorter was born August 25, 1933 in Newark, New Jersey and is a jazz saxophonist and composer. Shorter's compositions have earned him a prestigious reputation among his peers, and worldwide recognition from fans, critical praise from the press, and multiple Grammy Awards. Shorter rose to prominence in the late 1950s as a member of Art Blakey's Jazz Messengers. As the 1960s ensued, Shorter join Miles Davis's Second Great Quintet, and from there co-founded the jazz fusion band Weather Report. To date, Shorter has recorded over 20 albums as a bandleader.
