Norah Jones Collects Ravi Shankar's Posthumous Grammy Award

Singer Norah Jones stepped up to accept a special posthumous Grammy Award on behalf of her late father Ravi Shankar at a special ceremony in Los Angeles on Saturday.

The celebrated sitar player was publicly announced as the recipient of the 2013 Lifetime Achievement honor just hours after his death at the age of 92 in December, and the prize was given out ahead of the main show on Sunday.

The musician's daughters, Jones and Anoushka Shankar, stepped up to accept the trophy on their father's behalf during the pre-Grammy Awards ceremony at L.A.'s Wilshire Ebell Theatre.

Jazz singer Norah Jones has broken her silence following her father Ravi Shankar's death on Tuesday, insisting the celebrated sitar player will be "greatly missed."

The Indian musician passed away in San Diego, California at the age of 92, and his wife of 23 years, Sukanya, and music composer daughter, Anoushka Shankar, have already taken to his official website to mourn their loss.

Celebrated sitar player Ravi Shankar has died in a California hospital, aged 92.

The Indian musician passed away on Tuesday at Scripps Memorial Hospital in San Diego, where he was admitted last week after suffering breathing problems.

Shankar became known around the world in the 1960s after developing a friendship with Beatles guitarist George Harrison, who once branded him "the godfather of world music."

His daughters, sitar player Anoushka Shankar and Grammy-winning singer Norah Jones, have also found fame as musicians.

Actress Mischa Barton has upset Hindu leaders by complaining about her efforts to find a sitar teacher in India in a blog posting. The former O.C. star was recently in India shooting "Bhopal: A Prayer for Rain".

In between filming, Barton had hoped to visit Hindu temples and learn to play the sitar, but when her efforts to find a music teacher failed, she complained to fans and friends on her MySpace page.

Urban rockers Ozomatli have landed a Fullbright-Hays grant from the US State Department to tour India and Nepal as ambassadors.

Sitar legend Ravi Shankar is recovering in a San Diego, California, hospital after being admitted last week suffering from pneumonia. The 86-year-old Indian musician, who is the father of jazz singer Norah Jones, is in a stable condition and will be discharged soon, according to his spokesperson.

Singer/songwriter Norah Jones is set to make her Hollywood breakthrough - in a film by acclaimed Hong Kong director Wong Kar Wai. Working under the title of My Blueberry Nights, the film will be Wong's first English language film.

Jones achieved critical acclaim in 2003 by winning eight Grammys for her debut album Come Away With Me, then topped the charts again in 2004 with her second album Feels Like Home.

The 26 year-old daughter of Indian musician Ravi Shankar now hopes to repeat that success on screen.
