Scottish AC/DC Fans Launch Kickstarter Campaign For Bon Scott Statue

Fans of AC/DC have launched a $77,500 fundraiser to generate cash for a monument honoring late frontman Bon Scott in his hometown in Scotland.

Sculptor John McKenna was commissioned last year to design a statue commemorating the star, real name Ronald Scott, and devotees of the band have ramped up funding for the project in Kirriemuir.

Local community group DD8 Music has launched a campaign on fundraising website Kickstarter.com, and organizers aim to raise $77,500 for the monument.

Plans For A Bon Scott Biopic Move Forward

Filmmakers behind a planned biopic about the life of tragic AC/DC frontman Bon Scott have been given a big boost after receiving development support from the Australian government.

Director Eddie Martin and producer Lizzette Atkins have been piecing together magical moments from the rock icon's life with the help of the star's family and friends.

News of the film first hit headlines in 2008, and it just received development support in the form of single draft funding from Screen Australia, the film fund supported by the country's government.

Australian rockers AC/DC are set to be honored in their hometown of Sydney with a new exhibition documenting their rise to fame.

The show will trace the band from its formation in 1973 by brothers Malcolm and Angus Young, covering the tragic death of singer Bon Scott in 1980 and the next chapter of the band's history following the appointment of Brian Johnson.

AC/DC fans from around the world are gathering in Perth, Australia for a planned tribute to former lead singer Bon Scott 30 years after his death. Scott died of acute alcohol poisoning on February 19th 1980 after he passed out following a night of heavy drinking in a London nightclub. He was aged 33.

The group considered disbanding but signed current frontman Brian Johnson as Scott's replacement - and Johnson has been adamant a music tribute will be in place to mark the memory of his predecessor.

Former Led Zeppelin star Robert Plant has picked up his second major award of the new year after he was named the Greatest Voice in Rock in an online radio network poll.

Plant, who was made a Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE) in the Queen's New Year's Honors list for his services to music and the entertainment industry, has topped Planet Rock's new The Greatest Voice in Rock Top 40 ahead of Freddie Mercury and Mercury's Queen replacement Paul Rodgers.

The only woman to make the new list is Janis Joplin.
