The grisly video starts with the group performing at an outdoor festival. The Beastie Boys and Santigold are forced to make a quick getaway when they come under attack from a mysterious military organization.

Turn Up the Music, Tune Out the Business

7/15/2008 9:00am EDT
In Rainbows
Notice: that song bumping out of your stereo is a product, you a client. You are not a fan; you are a customer. You do not enjoy the music so much as you consume it as the business of it all consumes you. Your radio, boombox, iPod, they are nothing but a digital car lot, and Clive Davis, Damon Dash, and Tommy Mottola are nothing but salespersons. Hear that bass? It does not thwump your knees in a two-step rhythm; it pumps them forward, out the door and into your local record store. "Buy! Buy! Buy!" cries the chorus. "Buy! Buy! Buy!" wails the guitar. Buy, buy, bye integrity.

Don't like...

It's All In The Name: Current Music Acts With The Worst Names

6/12/2008 1:47pm EDT
The Red Jumpsuit Apparatus
So, what's in a name you may ask? Apparently, everything. A music act or band's name should be concise, easy to remember, easy to say, and make some sort of cognitive impression. We've compiled a list here of current bands with names that just don't make a lot of sense.

The Goth Rock band HIM strangely carries a name that has long been traditionally regarded as a religious associative term. Plus, finding the band on some music search engines is still like trying to find a needle in a haystack.

Spring Cleaning: Replacing Old Music With New

3/10/2008 2:57pm EDT
M.I.A. Santogold

M.I.A. without a doubt put out one of the best albums (Kala) of 2007! An amazing mix of jungle dance and 80s new wave, it was unprecedented! With all that being said, it's time to put your "Paper Planes" down and make some room for the next female MC to change your world. Santogold has already gotten the seal of authenticity from pioneers like MIA, Spank Rock, Diplo. Brooklyn breed but world influenced she is making a name from her self on the Nu Rave scene. You can catch her live at festivals all summer long starting at SXSW as part of the Fader showcase. Stand out track...

Santogold To Release Debut Album April 22

3/9/2008 11:00am EDT
Santogold is a survivor of a half-century worth of living along musical evolution's most cutting edges. The only live act that can boast of having out-aged Barbara Bush, having outlived Mr. Miyagi and out-styled Liberace, Santogold is here with future flavor.

Already receiving weighty club rotation and airplay in urban Afghanistan and downtown Beirut, Santogold is the first act of the century to boast a post-war following on the International Space Station Mir. Following a live performance broadcast from three thousand miles off the Cape of Good Hope last June, inmates at Leavenworth P...
