Salt-N-Pepa Star Laments Risqué Shows

August 6th, 2010 1:00pm EDT
Salt N Pepa
Salt-N-Pepa star Cheryl Wray regrets her risqué antics at the height of her fame - because she's now a born-again Christian mom.

The hip-hop star, who was Cheryl James when the trio was at the top of the charts, admits she often went too far onstage when young fans were in the audience watching her every move.

She explains, "When you are young, in a group and you have management and a record company behind you, you can get pushed into things you wouldn't do otherwise.”

"As a woman, as a mom, one thing I'd never have sung was the line, 'If I want to be a freak and sell it on the ...

'Glee's' Return And Season Premiere Lives Up To The Mass Hype

September 10th, 2009 10:17am EDT
Glee
Four months after "Glee's" one episode preview (and my countless viewings of "Don't Stop Believin'" on YouTube), the show fiiiiiiiiinally returned. Not even President Obama's address to the nation could stop the curtain from coming up (thank you Fox for your low political standards.) And any fears that the show might venture into "High School Musical: The Series" territory were quickly diminished as the kids debuted their wildly inappropriate rendition of Salt-n-Pepa's "Push It."

But let's gleecap. Passionate Spanish teacher/glee coach Will (Matthew J. Morrison) arrives at school (late,...

Remembering Old School Music Classics

August 29th, 2008 9:25am EDT
Biz Markie
It might be the music that Rihanna is now discovering. Or, it may be the same music that inspired P. Diddy to get into the game and be where he is today. Whatever the case may be, old school music was all of that back in the day. Jams were light - hearted at best, about having a good time, bringing a good laugh, sharing a moral story, making a social commentary, or, just something to chill too. Going waaaay back, here are some goodies that are now old school classics.

1. Positive K - "I Got a Man"

Does persistence pay? Who knows? However, the interaction in Positive K's song...

Prima J Opening For Danity Kane Through July

June 27th, 2008 7:00am EDT
Prima J
The name of their debut single may be "Rock Star," but the two cousins that make up Prima J are everything but. In fact, Jessica and Janelle Martinez are so down-to-earth, it seems just as odd that their song is the lead track from the Bratz™ Motion Picture Soundtrack (released by Geffen Records July 31st, with the movie following August 3). Far from precocious and everything but bratty, the pair are actually a real-life version of the comradarie and competitive edge captured in the movie.

Their recent discovery and success aside, Jessica and Janelle still can't believe that they've n...

First up, on Monday, Oct. 15 at 10:00 p.m., 'The Salt-N-Pepa Show,' will follow the two ladies who in 2002, at the height of their success, called it quits. Now, they've finally agreed to give it one more shot. But, Salt's still mad because she thinks she did all the work -- and was never appreciated. Pep's still angry that Salt broke up the group -- and that she did it by calling Pep in the middle of a pedicure!

They have never before spoken to...

They may be called The Cheetah Girls, but Adrienne Bailon, Sabrina Bryan, and Kiely Williams are all grown up! The proof is in their third CD, TCG. The trio, which became international sensations on the Disney Channel and have gone on to sell nearly four million albums, wrote or co-wrote six of the 11 songs on the album.

"This is definitely our most personal CD," says the outgoing California girl, Sabrina, who explains the other two movie soundtracks were all about their on-screen alter egos. "The fans knew us as our characters Chanel, Aqua, and Dorinda, but this time around the fans a...
