Rush planning 41st anniversary tour

March 20th, 2014 9:30pm EDT
Rush
Rockers Rush are planning a tour to celebrate their 41st anniversary next year (15).

The Canadian band only finished their massive Clockwork Angels worldwide tour last year (13), but they are hoping to head out on the road again to commemorate another milestone.

Guitarist Alex Lifeson tells RollingStone.com, "The three of us just had a meeting. We said, 'Let's not talk about anything band-wise for the next year. Let's separate ourselves and come back rejuvenated.'

"Unfortunately, the other people at that meeting didn't hear what we were talking about, so there are already plans being m...

SAG Award Nominees Named: '12 Years A Slave' Tops Nods (Full List)

December 11th, 2013 11:14am EST
12 Years a Slave
Some people were surprised by The Butler’s presence here, but I don’t see any surprises from them. Movies like Gravity and Her (which are frontrunners for a Best Picture nomination) aren’t large cast films, and wouldn’t get the Ensemble nomination over The Butler. The big surprise is Dallas Buyers Club, which is a relatively small cast, and did manage an Ensemble nomination. That could go a long way in getting DBC to a Best Picture nomination. Also, Daniel Bruhl is back in the race with a Supporting Actor nomination for Rush.

Kudos to the SAG members for nominating James Gandolfini for E...

Weekend Box Office: 'Prisoners' Takes An Easy First

September 23rd, 2013 8:36am EDT
Prisoners
The well reviewed Hugh Jackman pic beat expectations and was crowned the champion (by a long shot). It should play well over the coming weeks with increasing awards buzz. The film received a B+ cinemascore, so word of mouth will be good, but not The Butler sized.

1) Prisoners- 21.4M Weekend, 21.4M Total

2) Insidious: Chapter 2- 14.2M Weekend, 50.5M Total

The horror sequel dipped 64% in week two, pretty typical for this genre. A third installment has already been ordered, as the sequel will definitely outgross the original.

3) The Family- 7.0M Weekend, 25.6M Total

Rush have pledged to hand over the money raised from an upcoming show in Alberta to a flood relief fund for locals.

Severe storms have devastated areas in the Canadian province in recent weeks, resulting in the death of at least four people, and leaving more than 100,000 displaced across the region.

The Canadian rockers changed the location of their July 24th Calgary concert to a venue in nearby Red Deer in the aftermath of the floods, and they are now turning the show into a benefit to help locals affected by the disaster.

Geddy Lee says, "After seeing the devastation from the recent...

Ron Howard embarrassed by lagging lap on Top Gear

July 8th, 2013 3:10am EDT
Ron Howard
Actor/director Ron Howard was left red-faced after trailing behind in a driving challenge while appearing on U.K. motoring show Top Gear to promote his upcoming racing movie Rush.

The Hollywood legend appeared on the TV show to discuss his new biographical action film, about the rivalry between 1970s Formula One drivers James Hunt and Niki Lauda, but he put in a less than impressive performance when it was his turn to hit the racetrack.

Chatting to host Jeremy Clarkson, he blamed his slow lap on the fact he is used to driving American cars: "First of all, I will say the right-hand drive a...

Rush, Heart And Donna Summer Among 2013 Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame Inductees

December 11th, 2012 8:57pm EST
Rush
Finally! Canadian progressive rock gods Rush are heading to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

The prolific trio -- bassist/singer Geddy Lee, guitarist Alex Lifeson and drummer/lyricist Neil Peart -- formed in 1968 and released their self-titled debut album in 1974. They never broke up, save for a five year hiatus beginning in the late 1990s; and just released their 19th studio album, "Clockwork Angels", earlier this year to rave reviews.

The band made it in on their first try; but one would never know that after the yearly outpouring of disdain for the institution by fans after repeated snu...

Canadian rockers Rush have joined Peter Gabriel in a creative boycott of popular broadcaster Rush Limbaugh's talk radio show.

The rocker was "appalled" to learn the track was part of Limbaugh's radio rant, in which he called Georgetown, Washington, D.C. student Sandra Fluke a "slut" and "a prostitute" for arguing that her university's health i...

In naming Entwistle the top man, the publication's editors state, "His solo on My Generation is probably the most famous bass solo in rock history."

"The Who have carried on since his sudden death in 2002, but their music has lacked Entwistle's thunder and been considerably weaker as a result."

Also making the top five: Rush's Geddy Lee and Les Claypool from Primus.
