Happy 18th Birthday, Dakota Fanning! (Photos)

February 23rd, 2012 1:30pm EST
Dakota Fanning
Dakota Fanning is no longer a child star. The blonde cutie who wowed audiences in the 2001 film "I Am Sam" turns 18 years old today.

We expect great things from the Georgia native. She has appeared in movies such as "Taken," "Uptown Girls," and "Man On Fire." That's quite a resume for such a short time.

Most recently she played a sexy yet lethal vampire in "The Twilight Saga: Eclipse" and rock musician Cherie Currie in "The Runaways."

Dakota stars in several upcoming films, including "The Twilight Saga Breaking Dawn - Part 2," "Now Is Good," "The Motel Life," "Effie," "Furious Angel" and...

Kristen Stewart Does Whatever She Wants With Her Hair

July 5th, 2010 10:10am EDT
Kristen Stewart
Kristen Stewart admits her "Twilight" producers begged her not to cut her hair for "The Runaways."

She explained, "They offered me, like, many ridiculous things to not do that...I completely understand, but I just thought we'd have a better wig. We worked it out...I'm not gonna have a wig in the next one."

Kristen frequently fights back tears on the red carpet because she's terrified she will be "assassinated." She has confessed she finds red carpet events upsetting because she is convinced a crazed fan will "turn" on her.

She told Britain's Hello! magazine, "I look out there at a tho...

Trailer Talk: This Week In Movies- 'Kick-Ass,' 'Death At A Funeral' & More

April 12th, 2010 9:24am EDT
Tracy Morgan and Chris Rock
Thursday night I had the opportunity to see the rock n roll biopic “The Runaways” about the female 70s rock band featuring Joan Jett and Cherie Currie. The film effectively establishes the era with all its drug-addled and grungy glory. It paints the rise of the band as a whirlwind experience that ends almost as quickly as it starts. This concept is well-conveyed through Floria Sigismondi’s Dutch angles and spinning shots.

Where the film falters however is giving its characters enough depth for the audience to relate to them. They do not work hard enough to show us the girls are from...

Dakota Fanning-TYG-006384.jpg
Dakota Fanning prepared to play The Runaways' Cherie Currie by fronting Los Angeles band the Living Things.

The teenage actress admits she was terrified about the idea of singing live in biopic "The Runaways", and so director Floria Sigismondi suggested she rehearse with her husband Lillian Berlin's band.

Fanning says, "Even the thought of singing karaoke has always terrified me, and I had never felt the power of a band behind me."

The "I Am Sam" star grew so confident as the Living Things' stand-in singer she even invited members of her family to drop by the studio to see her perform.

Joan Jett: 'I'll Never Retire'

March 17th, 2010 3:33pm EDT
Joan Jett
Iconic 1970s rocker Joan Jett has vowed never to retire because she'd be too "bored" living her life away from the limelight.

Jett's teenage rock band The Runaways broke up in 1979 and she went on to launch a successful solo career and enjoy a string of acting roles.

The singer is still touring at the age of 51 - and insists she'll still be rocking well into old age.

She tells People magazine, "I'd get bored after a few weeks. I'll be working until I die."

Dakota Fanning: The Lesbian Kiss Was No Big Deal

Kristen Stewart/Dakota Fanning Kiss
Twilight's Kristen Stewart and the all-grown-up, Dakota Fanning star in this spring's anticipated indy flick, The Runaways.

The Runaways follows the un-told story of a 70's teenage rock band who bring a whole other meaning to sex, drugs and rock n' roll. While the film was all the craze at this year's Sundance Film Festival, there was one factor that had audiences a bit skeptical.

The two starlets share an on-screen steamy kiss together, but Ms. Fanning insists it's no big deal!

"It wasn't that big of a deal. It's just another part of the story. This kiss was passionate - Joan [Kristen]...

Kristen Stewart & Dakota Fanning Star As Rock Sisters In 'The Runaways'

Kristen Stewart
New Moon has been big news for Kristen Stewart and Dakota Fanning, shattering box office records and expectations, even for the highly anticipated franchise. Eyes are turning next to their follow-up film, which happens to reunite them. "The Runaways" casts Stewart as rocker Joan Jett.

"I can only play characters that I feel like are real people and in a complete way and in such a whole way," Stewart said. "If I fake any aspect of it I will have failed them and literally they're slaughtered. It's like these characters, they don't exist anymore unless I do it. So in terms of approaching pa...

Why Is Dakota Fanning Thinking About Baby Names?

November 10th, 2009 10:20am EST
Dakota Fanning
It's been fun to watch Dakota Fanning grow up on screen. She always seemed wise beyond her years as the child in I Am Sam and War Of The Worlds. She's blossomed into young womanhood in films like The Secret Life of Bees and Push. Still, she's a little young to start thinking about children of her own.

"I'm obsessed with baby names, with what people name their children," Fanning revealed in a press conference last weekend. "Just like friends, anybody. I know a lot of people's baby names. But I just love names in general."

Okay, at least she's not thinking of her own… yet. "I've been pl...

All-Girl Four Piece The Hedrons Have Classic Chick-Rock Sound

July 2nd, 2007 5:00pm EDT
The Hedrons
Granted, Scotland is best known for its bagpipes and teary-eyed sad bastard music. But, let's get one thing straight: Glasgow's The Hedrons don't cry; and the only pipes in this band are on lead-singer Tippi. Seriously, what you see is what you get here – four rough-neck chicks belting out loud, blustering, bar music. Of course, these no-frills femme fatales follow in the footsteps of the much more testosterone-dominated Stooges, or the slipshod pop punk of the Ramones. But we can certainly hear some of that soaring, chick-empowerment of Joan Jett or the slop-pop of Veruca Salt, too. And wi...
