Run-DMC star: 'Today's hip-hop is disrespectful and immature'

August 6th, 2013 9:18pm EDT
Run-Dmc star Darryl Mcdaniels has launched a scathing attack on modern hip-hop music, accusing today's rappers of popularising gun and drug culture.

The hip-hop pioneer is convinced too many current chart stars focus on negative themes in their music, without making any tracks with a positive message, and justify it by comparing their work to Hollywood movies.

He tells Britain's Metro newspaper, "A rapper will use this excuse - 'Man they don't go after Arnold Schwarzenegger and Bruce Willis when they make their violent movies' and I go 'If you're going to use that excuse get off the mic, ...

Spotlight On Hillbilly Celebrities

October 13th, 2009 9:48am EDT
Hillbilly celebs
A hillbilly celeb is like a young NBA player who came from nothing. Before they were popular they would eat at McDonald's, belch and swear in public, and do whatever they wanted. But now they live in a much different culture.

There are plenty of celebrities that came from nothing and turned into something. But what makes a hillbilly celeb different is the typically uneducated unsophisticated behavior that everyone enjoys watching.

Britney Spears and sister Jamie Lynn are perfect examples of hillbilly celebs. They are from the small town of Kentwood, Louisiana, and before they were mu...

Overrated & Underrated Pop Duets

October 3rd, 2008 10:11am EDT
Paul McCartney/Stevie Wonder
Sometimes one just ain't enough.

That's a line, okay an amended line, from the rarest of rock treats - the duet. Everyone loves when two pop icons team up for a single. It's just like those rare occasions when two solo wrestlers join forces for a super tag-team.

Just like its brethren in the WWE the results for pop duets are often much less than the sum of their parts. Still, each duet holds a special spot, or two, in the minds of music fans.

So it's easy to say that all duets are overrated isn't it? Well, that would be the case if it weren't for the fact that so many gr...

Remembering Old School Music Classics

August 29th, 2008 9:25am EDT
Biz Markie
It might be the music that Rihanna is now discovering. Or, it may be the same music that inspired P. Diddy to get into the game and be where he is today. Whatever the case may be, old school music was all of that back in the day. Jams were light - hearted at best, about having a good time, bringing a good laugh, sharing a moral story, making a social commentary, or, just something to chill too. Going waaaay back, here are some goodies that are now old school classics.

1. Positive K - "I Got a Man"

Does persistence pay? Who knows? However, the interaction in Positive K's song...
