Rudy Ray Moore was born March 17, 1927 in Fort Smith, Arkansas and was a comedian, musician, singer, film actor, and film producer. He was perhaps best known to the public as the character he created, Dolemite, whom he developed during his stand-up performances. Moore got his start in music as an R&B singer, while pursuing his comedy career at the same time. Moore developed his love for comedy while serving in the army and liked to entertain his fellow servicemen. Moore released a number of comedy records that reached the height of their success in the 1960s and 1970s, developing a rude and explicit style similar to Redd Foxx and Richard Pryor.
