Ron Carter was born May 4, 1937 in Ferndale, Michigan and is an American jazz double-bassist. His reputation as one of the most influential and prolific jazz musicians of our time developed over the years and through his body of work, which included over 2,500 albums to his credit. Carter is one of the most recorded bassists in jazz history, along with Milt Hinton, Ray Brown and Leroy Vinnegar. Carter is also an acclaimed cellist and has recorded work with this instrument. Over the years Cater has worked with many of the musical greats, such as Tommy Flanagan, Gil Evans, Lena Horne, Bill Evans, B.B.
