The Rolling Stones
Live at Paris Olympia, April 17, 1965
Release Date: z
Rating:

Live recordings of the Stones in the '60s are scarce. Other than TV and radio broadcasts, a truly good one of the Stones in concert prior to 1969 has yet to surface. This one is about the best of the lot, although the fairly raw sound quality, and somewhat less-than-optimal level of performance, mark this as one for the collector rather than the general fan. The group runs through much of its best early material, including "Little Red Rooster," "Around and Around," "The Last Time," "Route 66," "It's All Over Now," "Carol," and "Time Is on My Side," with reasonable gusto. The only number that they never recorded in the studio is their closing cover of Bo Diddley's "Hey Crawdaddy." Richie Unterberger, All Music Guide
