EMI Music To Sell Digital Catalog Without DRM

EMI Music today announced that it is launching new premium downloads for retail on a global basis, making all of its digital repertoire available at a much higher sound quality than existing downloads and free of digital rights management (DRM) restrictions.

The new higher quality DRM-free music will complement EMI's existing range of standard DRM-protected downloads already available. From today, EMI's retailers will be offered downloads of tracks and albums in the DRM-free audio format of their choice in a variety of bit rates up to CD quality. Notorious B.I.G. Marks 10th Anniversary Of Death At Number One

Dead rapper Notorious B.I.G. is back at the top of the U.S. album chart after taking his new Greatest Hits package to number one. The slain rap star latest release debuts at the top with opening week sales of 99,000.

The latest number one, Biggie's third, coincides with the 10th anniversary of his death and comes in 7,000 sales ahead of Canadian rockers Arcade Fire's number two debut Neon Bible. Also debuting in the top five is country star Gary Allan's Greatest Hits, which bows at five with 70,000 sales.

Pop-punk band Relient K is back with their fifth album in seven years cleverly titled, Five Score and Seven Years Ago, in stores March 6. Their highly anticipated new music video "Must Have Done Something Right" premiered yesterday on Yahoo! Audio Adrenaline To Disband
