Birth Place: Umeå, Sweden
Years Active: 1991-1998
Genres: Hardcore, Art Punk

Refused were a Swedish hardcore punk band that formed in 1991. In the seven years they were together they released three full-length albums and five EPs. Refused received notable success and became well respected among critics, with Kerrang! magazine listing their 1998 album “The Shape of Punk to Come: A Chimerical Bombination in 12 Bursts,” on their 2003 50 Most Influential Albums of All Time list.

The original lineup included Dennis Lyxzén, David Sandström, Pär Hansson, and Jonas Lindgren. Refused released their first studio album “This Just Might Be the Truth,” in 1994. They continued to build on their success with the release of “Songs To Fan The Flames Of Discontent,” in 1996, while 1998s “The Shape of Punk to Come: A Chimerical Bombination in 12 Bursts,” became their most successful release. It was shortly after this that Refused split up due to a lack of creative energy, and increasing differences between Dennis Lyxzén and the rest of the band. It was in the United States while touring in support of “The Shape of Punk to Come: A Chimerical Bombination in 12 Bursts,” that the band decided to split up and canceled the reminder of the tour. The group reunited in early 2012 and toured festivals such as Coachella, the Sonisphere Festival in the UK, and Rock for People in the Czech Republic. Refused claim their reunion was for 2012 only and have no plans to reunite again.
