The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame's Class of 2015 was officially announced on Tuesday morning, revealing eight new bands and artists who will be immortalized in Cleveland, Ohio (is that really a good thing?)

Although they received only 2.59% of the fan vote, Green Day was elected to the Hall in their first year of eligibility, while bands like Yes, The Moody Blues, Chicago and Warren Zevon -- all eligible for the Hall for at least two decades now -- were snubbed yet again, the four combining for just one nomination in the past quarter century.

The 2015 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame nominations have been announced and once again, the eclectic group of musicians is not without its dark horses.

Making the cutoff just before the 25 year mark, both Green Day and Nine Inch Nails were nominated. The debut albums for both artists were in 1989. Green Day's debut EP "1,000 Hours" came out in April 1989, and Nine Inch Nails’ first album "Pretty Hate Machine" was released in October of 1989.

Metallica drummer Lars Ulrich has penned a tribute to late Velvet Underground singer Lou Reed in this week's issue of Entertainment Weekly.

Ulrich worked with Reed on 2011 album "Lulu," a collaboration between the rock legend and the heavy metal legends, and counts the late singer as one of his biggest influences.

Lou Reed's widow Laurie Anderson has paid tribute to the late singer, who passed away on Sunday after a long battle with liver disease.

Anderson, who married Reed in 2008 and was his partner for nearly 20 years, called her husband a "prince and a fighter" in a letter she penned for New York newspaper the East Hampton Star.

The singer's letter reads as a celebration of Reed's life, and not a sad reflection.

After a journalist somehow confused Latin pop singer Lou Bega with late Velvet Underground singer Lou Reed, Bega hs been receiving condolences for his own death.

One-hit-wonder Bega, who became famous for his single "Mambo No. 5" -- a remake of Perez Prado's 1949 instrumental of the same name in which the German-born singer added his own lyrics -- posted a short tribute to Reed, who died on Sunday of liver failure at the age of 71.

Two days after he was hospitalized in New York for dehydration, rock veteran Lou Reed has heaped praise upon Kanye West's new album "Yeezus," calling it "majestic and inspiring."

Legendary rocker Lou Reed has cancelled his upcoming performances at California's famed Coachella music festival.

The Sweet Jane hit-maker was due to play at the event's double dates in April, but he has now pulled out citing "unavoidable complications."

Reed has also called off a concert in Los Angeles, as well as shows in San Francisco and Monterey, California.

The rocker has yet to give an official reason for the axed tour dates, but a statement posted online by concert promoters Golden Voice reveals "(The shows have) been cancelled due to unavoidable complications."

A newly-discovered genus of spider has been named after rocker Lou Reed.

An international group of biologists recently stumbled across the never-before-seen velvet spiders, which live underground, and decided to use the former Velvet Underground frontman as inspiration when coming up with a name.

According to Sci-News.com, the arachnid, now called Loureedia annulipes, lives in Israel.

Reed now joins a select group of celebrities who have had spiders named in their honour - among them, Neil Young and Frank Zappa.
