 Ray Cedillo & The Cedillo BandPensando en Ti Release Date 1992 Label Chief Rating:  It is, of course, interesting to observe the changes that develop in traditional forms of music as new eras usher in new technology. Thus we find with this early-'90s norteño combo that a synthesizer keyboard replaces parts that would have been played previously by accordion or a mariachi trumpet section. This is a collection of mostly ranchera numbers with the odd cumbia and bolero thrown in along with two challenging pieces simply described as "slow." Unfortunately, as in the progressive Windows operating systems, the upgrade might not have been for the better. The electronic keyboard is mixed in too loud, and most of the time Ray Cedillo's tone brings to mind the all-encompassing description of "cheesy keyboard presets." This is a family band, and whereas the younger members are certainly to be praised for their snappy sense of time and enthusiastic energy, some of the vocal harmonies strain credibility and some just bring to mind early Hanson. Guitarist Ken Luna is a spice master with his abbreviated licks, adding just enough for the right flavor.
