September 10th, 2010 6:30pm EDT
Corinne Bailey Rae
Corinne Bailey Rae may have lost Britain's prestigious Barclaycard Mercury Prize to electronic goth-pop trio The XX, but she looked stunning in a flesh-colored sequin cocktail dress and matching glitzy heels at the Grosvenor House Hotel in London on Tuesday.

Fun facts about Corinne:

-Her mother is British and her father is West Indian.
-She played the violin as a child before taking on the electric guitar.
-She studied English Literature before landing a record deal with EMI.
-Her song "The Sea," released in 2010, was heavily affected by the March 2008 death of her husband.

'American Idol' Denver Auditions: Bikini Boy & Lots More To Make Fun Of

February 3rd, 2010 9:46am EST
American Idol
Maybe it's the altitude, but I found myself disagreeing all summarily with the judges during the Denver American Idol auditions.

And it was on both sides. There were a few that I found spectacular that the judges hated, and several that I thought were absolute chores to sit through but the judges couldn't get enough of.

Of course, there was some agreement between us (and I'm certain they care so much about agreeing with me) and plenty of auditions well worth making fun of.

And with that, on with the recap. . .

The Three Best Auditions

Grammy Winner Corinne Bailey Rae's 'The Sea' Set For Jan. 26 Release

December 9th, 2009 7:56pm EST
Corinne Bailey Rae
"I'd Do It All Again," the first single from Grammy winner Corinne Bailey Rae's forthcoming album, "The Sea", goes to radio this week and will be available at all digital retailers in early January. A sweeping, defiant declaration of love and faith, the song is one of many highlights on "The Sea", set for January 26th release on EMI's Capitol Records.

"Rae has undergone a tidal shift towards a raw, less manicured sound," said The Times of one of her recent London performances. "'Are You Here' was a spiraling elegy in which she eschewed lyrical enunciation in favor of elemental anguish… ...

First Listen: Corinne Bailey Rae's 'The Sea'

December 4th, 2009 10:58am EST
Corinne Bailey Rae
It is just after 7pm in Hollywood when with little fanfare, songstress Corinne Bailey Rae slips onto the stage of the Hotel Café wearing a deep blue jumpsuit, corkscrew curls and a self-effacing smile. Backed by a five-piece band, the 30 year-old English waif wastes no time launching into the first of several new tunes off her upcoming album, THE SEA.

Despite the critical and commercial success of her 2006 debut self-titled album, Rae appears taken aback at times by the appreciation of the assemblage, smiling shyly at the ovation after each song and thanking everyone for their "support."...

'American Idol' Recap: Anoop & Megan Must Go

American Idol
Random Thoughts While Waiting for the American Idol Contestants to Start Singing:

-It's amazing how four judges can combine to say absolutely nothing in the show open.

-What a strange theme. Why not just say, "pick whatever song you want"?. How does one define a 'popular' download? Conspiracy people!

-Just when you thought the product placement couldn't get any more shameless - Seacrest uses it to promote his own show!

-Wow, Ryan Seacrest plays drops of Simon Cowell and the "American Idol" theme on his show. Local FM Radio now seems like a bastion of creativity and w...

Celebrity Fashion Review: 'The 50th Annual Grammy Awards'

February 18th, 2008 10:10am EST
Chris Brown
The 50th Annual Grammy Awards took place on February 10, 2008, at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, CA. As usual, one can always count on celebrities impressing us with their red carpet dos and disappointing us with their don'ts.

The Good

A definite "do" was the one sported by "Without a Trace" star Roselyn Sanchez. Wearing a one shoulder, knee-length dress in a slightly silvery color with golden prints, Roselyn appeared princess perfect. With her jet black hair flowing effortlessly on her shoulders, the only thing missing was a deserving tiara. Que princesa!

Some Nominees At This Year's Grammy Awards Might Sound Familiar

February 5th, 2008 4:16pm EST
Carrie Underwood
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) - Even if you only occasionally listen to radio, you've probably heard Carrie Underwood's revenge anthem ''Before He Cheats'' ... and heard it, and heard it, and heard it.

The tune is on Underwood's 2005 debut album, ''Some Hearts,'' and it first hit the charts back in February 2006. So why now, two years later, is ''Before He Cheats'' up for song of the year at the Grammy Awards on Sunday? Because the Grammy rules allow it.

Indeed, Underwood's mega-hit isn't the only song of the year nominee that could, at least to fans, feel stale. ''Hey There Delilah'' by ...
