Hypothetical Songs: Musicians That Asked 'What If'

9/27/2015 2:03pm EDT
13 'What If' Songs – Hypothetically Speaking!
Ah, those glorious things called “what if” questions. What are what if questions? They’re those hypothetical questions that haven’t happened and ultimately may or may not happen. Interestingly, numerous musicians have written and performed songs based upon them. This hypothetical list explores 13 what if questions, in all their hypothetical glory!

1) Meghan Trainor, “What If I” (Title, 2015)

“What if I, I wanna kiss you tomorrow?” If that’s the case Meghan Trainor, then by all means go for it! On “What If I,” the retro-pop singer knows that this dude is the ‘real deal.’ She’s qu...

The 51 Best Albums Of 2013 - What Made Your List?

12/30/2013 6:00pm EST
Daft Punk
Ranking the very best albums of any year is incredibly difficult; there are always misses. 2013 was filled with some triumphant musical moments, though not all of their parent albums were necessarily ‘worthy’ of being considered the best of the year. Because of various factors, this list has its surprises and like any album reviewed, its triumphs and flaws. One thing’s for sure – the top ten to fifteen albums are pretty close to the cream of the crop from my perspective. Here are the 50 (+1) best albums of 2013!

1) Vampire Weekend - Modern Vampires of the City

The Ivy Leaguers outdo th...

Five Music Takeaways from 2013

12/15/2013 1:00pm EST
The 20/20 Experience: 2 of 2
Ah, there is always plenty to write about the music industry and the number of trends that come and go, as well as those remaining constant.  2013 was another interesting year, whether merely for its pleasant surprises or its disappointments.  Many observations will and can be made of the year musically and pop-culturally in regards to its artists.  While my inner musical nerdy side wishes that I could nitpick and analyze every facet microscopically, I’ll rely on a Childish Gambino rhyme to express why that’s not possible: “Ain’t nobody got time for that!” What I do have time for is to shar...

Thoughts On The 56th Annual Grammy Nominations

12/9/2013 8:50pm EST
Macklemore & Ryan Lewis
The Grammys are like a musician’s Super Bowl, even if the nominations and victorious artists are flawed.  I won’t lie to you, I complain every year that someone won a Grammy that didn’t deserve it while someone else was snubbed. Just last year, during the 55th Annual Grammys, I lobbied hard for Frank Ocean (looking back, I have reservations now) while Mumford & Sons walked out with the Album of the Year trophy.  The year that Taylor Swift won for Fearless, my girl Beyoncé was on a roll until the coveted Album of the Year award was read.  You get my position though! This year,  I find myself...

2013 Album Playlist: Favorites, Least Favorites, and Honorable Mentions - Part 1

10/11/2013 9:15pm EDT
The 20/20 Experience: 2 of 2
As I look over my 2013 playlist from my iPod, I realize I have listened to numerous albums this year.  In fact, the amount of music that my ears have consumed and my pen has analyzed is pretty scary…and I still missed lots of albums! SMH! Some were special, some made me cringe, and some fell somewhere in between the two extremes.  As difficult as it was, as of October 7, 2013, I have compiled a list housing my favorites, least favorites, and honorable mentions.  I’m almost certain I’ve slighted someone and I’m sure there will be continual revisions, but for now, here’s what you should’ve sp...

9/18/2013 6:07pm EDT
Queens of the Stone Age
Queens of the Stone Age singer Josh Homme has a big problem with what he and his band was asked to do at Jay Z's music festival.

The rock band played at Jay Z's Made In America festival in Philadelphia earlier this month. Homme told CBC Radio 2, "That guy's a kook, you know. He has his security frisking the bands on the way in. I just told him 'If you open up my bag, then we're not playing, so I guess it's up to you now to decide whether I'm playing or not.'

"The idea they frisked all my guys, means you’re in some different place, no-one has ever done that."

Later, Jay Z gave the band a ...

The band posted a link to the video on thei...

Queens Of The Stone Age Performed Appendectomy On Fan In Germany?

2/24/2011 9:05am EST
Queens of the Stone Age
Rockers Queens Of The Stone Age once performed an emergency appendectomy on a female fan in Germany, according to the band's guitarist Troy Van Leeuwen.

The group had just finished a concert in Munich when Leeuwen and his bandmates were called upon to help a sick fan.

The rocker insists he knew what he was doing - but was too drunk to do it properly.

He tells, "We forgot the anesthesia. I do know how to perform these operations, but I'd had too much to drink that day. But she's OK.

"It's actually a legal matter... It's a medical, slash legal matter and I can't say much ...

Queens Of The Stone Age To Return

12/30/2010 2:18pm EST
Queens of the Stone Age
Rockers Queens Of The Stone Age are set to end their two-year hiatus by heading back to the recording studio in 2011.

The band has not released any new material since 2007's Era Vulgaris, and in 2008 they embarked an extended break which saw frontman Josh Homme form Them Crooked Vultures with Dave Grohl and John Paul Jones.

Guitarist Dean Fertita also focused on a side-project, playing with Jack White's The Dead Weather, but the musician admits the No One Knows hit-makers are now ready to work together again.

He tells The Pulse Of Radio, "Things are going really good. Everybody seems ...

The Art of Dying
We have lots of diversity on this week's 'Learning Curve'. Tune in and check them out.

The Art of Dying

Hail from: Vancouver, BC, Canada

Label: None

Sounds like: Seether, Taproot, Evans Blue

You should be listening to: 'Self Titled' LP

I Should Care Why?: The world needs more bands like the Art of Dying and I'll tell you why. They aren't some whiny teenage Disney star who thinks they can sing, and they aren't emo. They are honest, that much is evident by listening to just one of their tracks (I recommend 'You Don't Know Me'). You would think that t...

Where Do Bands Get Their Names?

11/11/2008 11:01am EST
The Band
Sometimes the music doesn't matter. A band that channels the combined genius of John Lennon, Strauss and The Spice Girls can still fall flat with the wrong name. After all, who wants to tell people that their favorite band is called "Truck" or "Lug Nut?" A bad name can kill the potential of any group of musicians. It took more than a few tries to get it right for many of the most popular groups of all time. A few young gents from Britain started off their career calling themselves The Detours and then The High Numbers before ultimately settling on The Who.

Rock history is rife with lor...
