Prodigy's 'Smack My B**ch Up' Named Most Controversial Song

November 24th, 2010 1:25pm EST
Prodigy
A track by British dance act The Prodigy has been voted the most controversial song of all time.

The band's 1997 offering, Smack My B**ch Up, was banned by the U.K.'s BBC network - the sex and drugs-filled video was not shown and the track was not played in chart rundowns.

It has now topped a poll by the Performing Right Society to find the most outrageous tune, ahead of the Sex Pistols' God Save The Queen at number two and Relax by Frankie Goes To Hollywood at three.

The top five is rounded out by Eminem's Kim and Killing In The Name by Rage Against The Machine.

Top Ten Best Records of 2009

January 7th, 2010 8:00am EST
Isis
2009 saw the release of a number of great records, but it wasn't that hard to nail down a solid list of the ten best. The year saw a number of musical comebacks as well, none more awe-inspiring and utterly impressive than Alice in Chains. Coincidentally their latest release and first since the death of Layne Staley, Black Gives Way to Blue, tops this very list as my album of the year, although my best album of the year choice changed a handful of times as 2009 progressed.

At one point in time my album of the year was the Prodigy's Invaders Must Die, then that quickly changed once Julien...

Review: Prodigy: 'Invaders Must Die'

March 2nd, 2009 3:11pm EST
Prodigy
When it comes to success, the Prodigy has definitely had their fair share. It may be going out on a limb to say, due to the excellent body of work the band has amassed throughout the years, but 'Invaders Must Die' could be the best they have released to date.

The new release marks the bands fifth studio album, their first in five years, since 2004's 'Always Outnumbers, Never Outgunned.' It has already spawned a top ten hit with the single 'Omen.' UK radio host Zane Lowe also proclaimed it as one of the hottest records in the world.

'Invaders Must Die' is emphatically kicked of...

Q's deputy editor, Gareth Grundy, explains, "The thing about 'Smells Like Teen Spirit,' it was a watershed moment in rock music. It changed everything. It put heavy music back on the map in the early 1990s, really, that combination of punk-rock anger and the heavy Black Sabbath 1970s metal. It was something new. Sulky kids everywhere loved Nirvana and continue to do so."
