'Saturday Night Live' Recap: Chris Rock And Prince Take Center Stage At NBC Studio 8H

November 2nd, 2014 7:02am EST
Prince snl
In the past year, “SNL” was widely criticized for its lack of diversity, hired a new black cast member following that public pressure, debuted its first black Weekend Update cast member, and from the writer’s room brought on another black cast member. So an episode hosted by Chris Rock seemed poised to be the most head-on examination of race on “SNL” in years, or even decades. While that element was present, it was not really any more so than it has been in the past couple of years. Overall, in fact, this edition ended up like most episodes of the past couple of years: consisting of most...

10 Gender Bending & Androgynous Celebrities
People who cross the line between male and female and are confused for being the opposite sex are referred to as androgynous. They embody sexual ambiguity. They display it in their fashion and/or in their sexual or gender identity.

Scottish actress Tilda Swinton is an ethereal, androgynous star who keeps her platinum blonde hair short and resembles a man at times.

She told the Daily Mail in 2014 she's often mistaken for being male "especially at airport security. I think I should probably wear more lipstick."

Pop star Prince, born Prince Rogers Nelson, has a flamboyant stage presence...

10 Incredibly Heartfelt Songs of 2014
In an age dominated by big records, there’s nothing like a truly captivating, heartfelt song. That’s not to say that a record can’t be a song or visa versa, but these days, the two aren’t necessarily interchangeable. For all of the big records dropped in 2014, there are also some incredibly notable heartfelt songs that definitely deserve recognition (see the bloated, incomplete list of honorable mentions). But to keep the list from being forever long, here are 10 of the most heartfelt songs of 2014.

1) Sam Smith, “Stay With Me” (In The Lonely Hour)

Isn’t this one a total no-brainer...

Blake Shelton Wins Race To The Top of The Billboard 200

Blake Shelton
When the Billboard issue their chart prognostications last week, it was suggested that Blake Shelton had a solid shot at his second career #1 album. That said, that forecast would become cloudy thanks to one Barbra Streisand, who was projected to be competitive in the race for the top spot once again. Fellow country artists Lady Antebellum were considered to be likely third place. Things didn’t complete go as expected.

Blake Shelton indeed topped the Billboard 200, selling a more robust than expected 101,000 copies of Bringing Back The Sunshine. While prognostications had allotted 90...

Plectrumelectrum
One of the best parts of September 30, 2014 was the fact that The Purple One, aka Prince returned. Not only did he bestow upon the music world a highly anticipated solo album in Art Official Age, but he also delivered a second set with 3RDEYEGIRL entitled PLECTRUMELECTRUM (say what?). While PLECTRUMELECTRUM is the less buzzed about set of the two, don’t let it discourage you – there’s plenty to dig about PLECTRUMELECTRUM besides its daring title!

“Wow” opens PLECTRUMELECTRUM sensationally. Rather than being set in common time, “Wow” is in six-eight meter, giving it something of a blues...

Prince Is At His Eccentric Best On 'Art Official Age'
Calling Prince ‘orthodox’ or ‘traditional’ would be nothing short of an insult; a big-time middle finger. Throughout his lengthy, innovative career, Prince has always pushed the boundaries, fusing rock, pop, and R&B (among other genres). Additionally, Prince’s promotional strategies have been as unique as his style and albums. Once more affiliated with Warner Bros, Prince drops not just one album, but two – Art Official Age and PLECTRUMELECTRUM with 3rdeyegirl.

Despite issuing two albums, Prince’s solo album, Art Official Age, earns the most buzz. Over its course, Art Official Age is d...
