Country singer Janette Carter, of cuuntry music's founding family, the Carters, 82 (1/22); and actor Chris Penn, 40, brother of actor Sean Penn who starred in Quentin Tarantino's Reservoir Dogs (1/24). Tragic disco star June Pointer's final months were miserable, according to sister and former bandmate Bonnie Pointer. June was paralysed and unable to speak. The Pointer Sisters star lost her fight with breast, liver, colon and bone cancer on April 11 after a decade-long battle with drug and alcohol abuse.
