Michele Bachmann Ignores Tom Petty's 'American Girl' Request
Republican presidential candidate Michele Bachmann is ignoring rocker Tom Petty's plea for her to drop his American Girl hit as her rally anthem.
The singer/songwriter's management team sent Bachmann's campaign bosses a cease and desist letter earlier this week after the congresswoman played the track at a rally in Iowa, where she officially announced her plans to run against President Barack Obama in 2012.
However, it appears Bachmann is defying Petty's request; American Girl was played at a campaign stop in South Carolina on Tuesday - but just 30 seconds of the song.

In a past interview, Petty said, "He was just degenerating on us to the point where we thought keeping Howie in the band was actually doing him more harm than getting rid of him. His personal problems were vast and serious.

Tom Petty: 'My Dad Thought I Was Gay'
Tom Petty still has nightmares about his violent upbringing and thinks his father thought the rocker was gay.
The Free Fallin' singer's dad could never understand his son's love of the arts - and dearly wanted him to be more of a sportsman - but Petty had no interest in playing football or baseball, and hated joining his dad on hunting trips.
He tells Rolling Stone magazine, "(My father) was scary and violent. He beat the living hell out of me, and there was constant verbal abuse. Looking back on it, he probably was disappointed that I was so drawn to the arts. He probably thought I...

Billy Bob Thornton Can't Believe His Radio Rant Was Headline News
Billy Bob Thornton is amazed his recent radio outburst in North America became a major news item - because he always attacks interviewers who ask questions they've agreed not to ask.
The Oscar winner claims CBC Radio host Jian Ghomeshi had promised not to ask Thornton about his movie career during a live chat about his music and group The Boxmasters.
And when the DJ questioned Thornton about how he finds time for music in between his acting jobs, the actor snapped, "Would you say that to Tom Petty?" and went on to blast his host for broaching subject matter the star had allegedly ...

Writer's Viewpoint: Disputing An Iconic Song List
It takes a cataclysmic event to derail Overrated/Underrated from its usual Friday spot. Currently the Oscars have been serving as that disruptive force, but this week interruption comes from the most unlikely source: a sports columnist from the Kansas City Star.
This is because Joe Posnanski has suggested on his blog that we stop voting artists into the Rock 'N' Roll Hall of Fame and shift our focus to Hall-Worthy songs. Songs he deems "Iconic". His criterion for including a song on the ballot is that it be "A song that represents a set of beliefs or a way of life. So, I see these s...

Overrated & Underrated Pop Duets
Sometimes one just ain't enough.
That's a line, okay an amended line, from the rarest of rock treats - the duet. Everyone loves when two pop icons team up for a single. It's just like those rare occasions when two solo wrestlers join forces for a super tag-team.
Just like its brethren in the WWE the results for pop duets are often much less than the sum of their parts. Still, each duet holds a special spot, or two, in the minds of music fans.
So it's easy to say that all duets are overrated isn't it? Well, that would be the case if it weren't for the fact that so many gr...
