The Who's Pete Townshend was honored with the prestigious Les Paul Award at the 28th annual Technical Excellence & Creativity (TEC) Awards on Friday.

The rocker was selected for the prize, named after electric guitar pioneer Les Paul, in recognition of his achievements in audio technology and production. The TEC Awards celebrate the work of audio professionals, and Townshend recalled his own early attempts at recording music as he picked up his trophy at the ceremony in Anaheim, California.

Guitar Legend Les Paul's Equipment To Go Under The Hammer

Instruments and equipment from the estate of late guitar great Les Paul are to be sold off at auction in June.

Highlights of the Julien's Auctions event include a 1968 Prototype Gibson Les Paul Custom Recording Model, a 1951 Fender Nocaster, a 1927 Gibson L-5 Sunburst Cremona and even Paul's touring rig, which is expected to fetch upwards of $5,000.

The two-day Los Angeles auction will take place on what would have been Les Paul's 97th birthday.

Richard Gere's Guitar Auction Raises $936,000 For Charity

Richard Gere has raised more than $900,000 for humanitarian charities after selling off his beloved guitar collection.

Musicians including Steve Miller and Karen Elson were in the crowd at Christie's auction house in New York on Tuesday as Gere sold his 107-strong collection.

The instruments, amassed since the actor was a child, included several top branded pieces such as Gibson and Fender and guitars once owned by blues legend Albert King and Jamaican reggae musician Peter Tosh.
