The "TiK ToK" hitmaker's mother, Pebe, wrote tracks for both Parton and Cash, and the feisty blonde singer is convinced she will tackle the genre during her career - but insists she will remain a "white girl rapper" in the near future.

She tells Paper magazine, "I'm really inspired by country music - my mom wrote country music - and I love Dolly Parton and Johnny Cash. I think at some point there might be some country collaborations or records in the fu...

July 1st, 2010 12:30pm EDT
Dolly Parton
Dolly Parton has defended her "honorary goddaughter" Miley Cyrus over her raunchy new image - insisting the teenager is just "trying to find her way."

The 17-year-old Disney star has hit headlines in recent weeks with her saucy onstage antics, which have included flashing her flesh in revealing costumes and simulating a same-sex kiss with a female dancer as she promotes her new album Can't Be Tamed.

However Parton, who has known the youngster for many years, is adamant Cyrus is just going through a rebellious phase and she shouldn't be judged too harshly.

Parton tells Fox News, "I've ...

Man Beat Dolly Parton At Look-A-Like Contest

May 23rd, 2010 4:37pm EDT
Dolly Parton
Dolly Parton once lost a Dolly Parton look-a-like contest - to a man.

The country music queen decided to have some fun and thrill her gay fans by showing up to a Dolly Double party in Santa Monica, California and was stunned when she missed out on the top prize.

She says, "I just kinda over-exaggerated everything I am - bigger hair, bigger beauty mark, bigger boobs... and I thought, 'I'm gonna go down to the club...' They were marching across the stage, the look-a-likes, and all these drag queens were at least six-feet tall with their high heels and here comes this little... I guess they ...

A Small Collection Of Christmas Music Videos

December 24th, 2009 1:41pm EST
Christmas music video
Back when MTV played music videos (remember those?), this time of year was reserved for playing the best… and worst Christmas classics that pop culture had to offer. Even though the days of Christmas tunes playing on TV until 3 am are over, the art of the Christmas music video has never gone away. To celebrate, Starpulse has put together a small collection of yuletide joy to celebrate the season. Eat that MTV.

Bob Dylan - "Must Be Santa"

Who would have guessed that Bob Dylan threw such bitching Christmas parties? The lead single off of Bob Dylan's strange new Christmas album "Christma...

Dolly Parton CD Box Set
If the image of Dolly Parton was indeed to be carved in stone atop a great mountain in her native East Tennessee hills, it would be a worthy honor among the hundreds of honors and awards she has already received - for her accomplishments over the past 50 years as a singer, songwriter, musician, record producer, worldwide touring artist, Hollywood actor and TV personality, Broadway entrepreneur, author, amusement theme park owner, celebrated philanthropist, and more.

Not the least of those accomplishments is her litany of hit songs and signature compositions spanning five distinct decades...

Though they receive a lot of free clothing from designers, celebrities are not immune to looking - well - worse than us regular folk. Check out our list and photos of the celebs with the worst personal style:

When people begin to suspect that you are drunk when you show up for your work, one would think you would try to dress like you weren't drinking before you got there. Not Paula Abdul. She always looks like she's going to a frat party that she got dressed for while she was pregaming. How else could she think that shiny sequin leggings, a George Washington's blouse, and captain Hook's...

As one of the highest paid actresses in the world, it is no surprise that Julia Roberts has a long and varied career to admire. She was the first actress to be on the cover of Vogue, and she is undoubtedly considered one of America's Sweethearts, so much so that she actually starred in a movie of the same name! Beautiful, intelligent, well spoken, and hard working, Roberts has been in a numbe...

Underrated & Overrated Movie Songs

November 7th, 2008 1:13pm EST
Neil Young
We all know the real reason we go to the movies. It isn't the thrills or the chills, the laughs or the gaffes, the drama or Lorenzo Lamas, no; we all hit the theater to hear the music. That is, we love to hear the one big song associated with any film.

The marriage of music and movies has long been exceptional. Whether it's "Theme From a Summer's Place" or "Blame Canada", nothing raises a film's enjoyment factor quite like a good tune.

Problem is, most songs simply aren't that good. A lot of these film tunes come from a great movie and are thusly mistaken as great music when i...

Seven Ways To Fix 'American Idol'

May 19th, 2008 8:47am EDT
American Idol
Lopping off 30 minutes is a start, but isn't nearly enough. At FOX's up-fronts last week, the network's executives made the startling announcement that "American Idol's" results show will be limited to a half-hour next season. A great cheer rose up from "Idol" nation at the news, as this will surely limit the time for ex-contestants pretending to have music careers on the nation's biggest show.

Of course, this news was met with a drop of cynicism. Lisa de Moraes of The Washington Post wrote that FOX's announcement of the time reduction was simply the executives' "way of reminding us ...

'American Idol' Undergoes 'Post-Parton' Depression; Farewell To Ramiele Malubay

April 3rd, 2008 9:18am EDT
Ramiele Malubay
The nine remaining contestants on "American Idol" Tuesday night welcomed talented country singer and songwriter Dolly Parton to the stage. Though a household name to many, the contestants seemed to find it difficult to fully connect with a song. Maybe it was the county theme that tripped up many, or maybe it was that Dolly Parton's songs are not among the most familiar to today's generation. Even the judges, particularly Randy Jackson and Simon Cowell, fell victim to the twang and giddiness of the country selections, criticizing nearly every performer who took to the stage. Whatever the r...

'American Idol' Contestants Bid Farewell to Chikezie; 9 Remain

March 27th, 2008 12:54pm EDT
Chikezie Eze
Syesha Mercado and Chikezie Eze stood next to each other on stage, clutching what was left of their possible time on "American Idol." Both veterans of the bottom three, Syesha managed to dodge another bullet, sending Chikezie packing his bags.

The former Los Angeles International Airport baggage handler took the exit with his usual grace and utmost charm. After his Tuesday night's performance of Luther Vandross' "If Only For One Night," Chikezie seemed shaken by the judges' responses. In choosing his song, the California native said the song touched his heart unlike any other duri...

'American Idol's' Last Audition Round: That's a Wrap!

February 7th, 2008 8:58am EST
American Idol
Bow your head, the season seven "American Idol" auditions are over. And thankfully at that. This week's two-day episode featured the typical lackluster group of auditions and overwhelmed judges. Even Ryan Seacrest didn't seem as enthusiastic as usual.

Whereas the premiere day of auditions easily welcomed in many Hollywood-bound talent, the last day seemed more difficult. Contestants wouldn't have been able to win over the judges even if they paid them. Well, at least that was the case with Simon and Randy. Like much of the season already, Paula cannot seem to say no. Even when tur...

'Dance War's' Country Night Is As Authentic As The Chinese Food At Panda Express

February 5th, 2008 8:42am EST
Taylor Swift
Magic isn't about making things actually disappear, but it is about the art of distraction. "Dance War: Bruno vs. Carrie Ann" is not about dance but about the illusion of dance. "Dance War" is not an actual competition, but the illusion of a competition. We know this because ABC is slowly turning this song and dance show into a showcase for... anything.

A new season of "The Bachelor" arrives in March? Throw Matt Grant on, the smarmy British single of the upcoming season. As a side note, can ABC groom their reality stars a little better? When Drew Lachey asked Matt to tell him...
