Jazz pianist Sal Mosca has died from complications brought on by emphysema. He was 80. Mosca passed away at a hospital in White Plains, New York on July 28. Born Salvatore Joseph Mosca on 27 April 1927, he worked with jazz greats like Miles Davis, Charlie Parker and Billie Holiday.

Forest Whitaker regrets playing tortured characters in films, as he finds it hard to shake them off when the cameras stop rolling. The actor, famed for his role as Jazz legend Charlie Parker in 1988s Bird, gets so close to the dramatic characters he plays, they seep into his life off set.

The film will chronicle the life of Oklahoma-born Baker, real name Chesney Henry Baker, Jr., his rise to stardom after being discovered by saxophonist Charlie Parker and his descent into heroin addiction. Baker's death in May 1988 was shrouded in speculation.
