Best albums are invariably marked by an editor's (or staff's) preference in music. But what about qualifying the most important? Yesterday, we brought you the Ten Greatest TV Shows of the decade. Now it's time to turn up the tunes a bit. During this decade, music kind of went back to the way it was fifty years ago. That is, the single became more important than the album. With the rise of mp3 downloads, and the ultra-convenient iPod for playing them back, singles were now the most common way of buying or listening to music. We're on the verge of again seeing artists simply releasing singles, rather than padding them with an additional ten tracks.

With that in mind, here are the Ten Greatest Songs of the decade...

This is because Joe Posnanski has suggested on his blog that we stop voting artists into the Rock 'N' Roll Hall of Fame and shift our focus to Hall-Worthy songs. Songs he deems "Iconic". His criterion for including a song on the ballot is that it be "A song that represents a set of beliefs or a way of life. So, I see these s...

Hip hop used to be feeling, not form—A boom-bap rush that could, and would, be interpreted and articulated differently by it's various creators. It was this loose constitution, open to infinite amendments that bred the broad crop of creative, innovative rap in late '80s and early '90s. However, things changed. When the financial stakes is high, that which makes dollars makes sense, and consequently a more polished and rigid vision of hip hop emerged in the mid-'90s, and it catapulted the genre to new heights.

Hip hop continued to progress into the new millennium and brought even newer...
