One AM Radio is a musical project with vocalist Hrishikesh Hirway at the helm. Mostly a one-man-show pop band, Hirway often collaborates with other artists on various projects. Born and raised in Peabody, Massachusetts to Indian parents, Hirway formed The One AM Radio in 1998 and began performing under this name at local venues in and around Connecticut. Hirway's music has a dark, melancholy sound that is deeply emotive and filled with isolation at times. While studying at Yale, Hirway met fellow artist Ted Leo, with whom he recorded several records.

In 2000, Hirway connected with another Yale student, violin player Jane Yakowitz, to record a 7” single for Troubleman Unlimited. The two musicians feel quickly into mutual regard for one another and a year later Yakowitz was a permanent fixture to the One AM Radio lineup. The band released their debut album, “The Hum of the Electric Air” in 2002, followed by “A Name Writ in Water” two years later on the Level Plane label. In 2007, The One AM Radio had changed labels and released “This Too Will Pass” on Dangerbird Records; the record is an emotional exploration of Hirway's journey through various relationships, break-ups, and family divorce. The hypnotic power of the record can't help but pull the listener in. 2011 marked the band's release of “Heaven Is Attached by a Slender Thread,” which was eagerly anticipated by fans.
