Best songs on DPP - Last of the Wilds, Poet and the Pendulum (despite the cringeworthy narrated bits) Master Passion Greed, Meadows of Heaven, the rest of it is ok or just plain bland (Bye Bye Beautiful/Eva)

Well if you want symphonic metal listen to Oceanborn or Wishmaster. I do like Dark Passion Play at times, but its pretty inconsistent like Once is.

The only one of their albums that I have is Once and I'm getting Dark Passion Play very soon. I never said they were bad with Tarja. I meant that they could be too operaish at times. She's a great vocalist, but I prefer Anette. One thing I've noticed since Anette's been in the band is I don't have to try hard to hear the guitars anymore! Sometimes they could be too symphoniac, not enough metal.
They're much, MUCH better now.

Too operaish? That was the whole point that made them stand out. Oceanborn is still their best, their most original and creative mix of heavy metal, symphonics, folk influence etc.

I changed my mind about the new singer. I think she's better than Tarja. When Tarja was in the band, they were too operaish.
