Stevie NicksBella Donna Release Date: 1981 Running Time: 41:48 Label: EMI Music Distribution Rating: ![]() |
Stevie Nicks' solo career was off to an impressive, if overdue, start with Bella Donna, which left no doubt that she could function quite well without the input of her colleagues in Fleetwood Mac (a band she would remain a member of until 1993). The album yielded a number of hits that seemed omnipresent in the '80s, including the moving "Leather and Lace" (which unites Nicks with Don Henley), the poetic "Edge of Seventeen," and her rootsy duet with Tom Petty, "Stop Draggin' My Heart Around." But equally engaging are less exposed tracks like the haunting "After the Glitter Fades." Hit producer Jimmy Iovine wisely avoids over-producing, and keeps things sounding organic on this striking debut. Alex Henderson, All Music Guide

| Probably the best of Stevie's solo albums, this is her first solo album. Following a few hugely successful albums and tours with Fleetwood Mac, Stevie released this album in 1981. Not surprisingly enough, the album hit #1 on the Billboard charts. If you've listened to this album, you'll understand why. It's a classic album and you can tell Stevie really put her heart into this album. The title track, "Think About It," "Edge Of Seventeen," and "Outside The Rain" are my favorites on this album. She also brings fellow singers Tom Petty and Don Henley to duet with her on three songs here, plus Petty contributes some guitar to "Outside The Rain." All in all, an amazing album, I give it 5 stars! | ||
