Can A Teenybopper Catch A Break?

June 22nd, 2010 9:26am EDT
Teenyboppers. Every generation has a set of them—musical artists who are talented, but kid-friendly to the point that they send the youth into a frenzy. They’re a record label staple: young acts that can spur an enamored tween demographic, one without disposable income, to force their parents do the spending for them with tears and declarations of imminent death if they don’t have that poster hanging in their room or an entire album downloaded on itunes. While it is clear that some tween acts have been less talented than others, they are still generally met with a particular sort of disdain...

Snoop Dogg
Sports-mad rapper Snoop Dogg has $20,000 riding on the Los Angeles Lakers winning the NBA championships after challenging Boston Celtics fan Donnie Wahlberg to the basketball bet.

The Drop It Like It's Hot star is an avid Lakers fan and recently issued a public call to supporters of the rival team to put their money where their mouth is after he was taunted about the 3-2 lead the Celtics had over the California team in the run up to Tuesday night's Game 6. New Kids on the Block star Wahlberg stepped up to Snoop's dare and the pair agreed to the big money wager, which will be donated to th...

The Best And Worst Super Bowl Halftime Shows (Videos)

January 29th, 2010 2:49pm EST
The Who
The Who will do the honors of entertaining Super Bowl halftime audiences that don't switch over to the Puppy Bowl this year. The history of the halftime show is a surprising display of ups-and-downs, from mind-blowing performances to corny overproduced ego trips.

Best: Michael Jackson, Super Bowl XXVII

The halftime show was hurting. Two years prior, the New Kids on the Block performance was pre-empted by coverage on Desert Storm and their performance was edited down and shown after the game. Then, FOX swooped in and scooped million of viewers away from the halftime show the next year (mo...

NKOTB Scrap Their Aussie Tour

June 17th, 2009 3:17pm EDT
New Kids On The Block Scrap Tour
Reunited boy-band New Kids On The Block have pulled the plug on their Australian tour - blaming the global recession for the cancellation.

The Hangin' Tough hit-makers, who made a comeback after a 14-year hiatus, were set to hit Down Under after their successful U.S. tour finishes in August.

However, the band has found it hard to make the sums work in the current economic downturn, and have had to apologize fans for the scrapped gigs.

Band member Donnie Wahlberg writes on the band's website, "We are, in fact, in the middle of a worldwide recession and we just cannot make it work...

Joey Fatone Hints At 'N Sync Reunion

January 13th, 2009 3:55pm EST
Joey Fatone
Singer Joey Fatone is refusing to rule out reuniting with his former pop group 'N Sync - insisting a comeback is still "possible."

The Bye Bye Bye hit-makers went on hiatus in 2002 to allow Justin Timberlake to launch a solo career, and he soon became a pop superstar. But Fatone is confident the quintet will get back together one day - if they can find the time to meet up.

He tells, "It's possible. You never know, that's the hardest part. With 'N Sync you have five guys with five individual likes and what they wanna do in the direction of their careers. For me, pe...

But the band members, who reunited in 2008 following a 14-year hiatus, insist playing on a cruise ship does not mean their comeback has been a failure.

Singer Joey McIntyre tells, "We're gonna perform on a ship, on a cruise. John Mayer has done these things before; our manager tells u...

The American Music Awards: A Seat Filler's Report

November 28th, 2008 11:43am EST
2008 American Music Awards
Having friends in high places is a definite perk to living and working in this crazy town they call Hollywood. Which is how I found myself on a Sunday afternoon with about 200 other fans in my trendiest Hollywood club attire, waiting to be bused to the Nokia Theater in downtown Los Angeles to serve as a seat filler at the 2008 American Music Awards.

Prior to this the largest awards show I had attended was my sister's high school graduation, so I had no idea what to expect. This being Hollywood however, I figured I'd be hanging out with a bunch of Pamela Anderson wannabes and hangers ...

Can Cover Art Affect Music Sales?

October 2nd, 2008 10:28am EDT
Why do record labels and musicians put so much thought into the art work that will grace the covers of new releases to the public? If we were to consider the recent "friendly" album sales feud between the releases of Kanye West's Graduation and 50 Cent's Curtis, perhaps for example, it may have been that West's contemporary and animated cover edged out 50's dark harder edged self portrait cover art. Though there's no given concrete evidence that the purchases of music is motivated by cover art, but there's nothing like getting your most favorite music release with a great designed cover....

Check Out Varsity Fanclub's Pool Party

September 18th, 2008 7:30pm EDT
Varsity Fanclub
It is a widely accepted tenet in pop music that every generation needs its own young stars to scream for. So is it really surprising that a new group of fresh-faced young men have begun to make a footprint on the pop landscape? Even old-timers New Kids on the Block have reunited more than a decade after 'N Sync and Backstreet Boys ruled the charts. Clearly the members of NKOTB recognized that few people (even those of us old enough to own "Hangin' Tough" on vinyl), can resist the simple pleasure of five talented, upbeat guys singing and dancing in unison. It's been true since the Jackson 5 ...

New Kids Defend Reclusive Robbie Williams

September 17th, 2008 10:14am EDT
New Kids On The Block have defended British musician Robbie Williams' unusual behavior and urged fans to "get off his back".

The former Take That star has become reclusive in recent years, chasing a lifelong interest in the paranormal by searching out aliens from observatories in the Arizona desert. And now singer Danny Wood has jumped to Williams' defense, insisting he will soon make a welcome return to the music industry.

He says, "Rob makes an album, tours, has a nervous breakdown. Then he makes an album, tours, has another nervous breakdown. That's what he is supposed to do ...

September 15th, 2008 12:02pm EDT
New Kids on the Block
When New Kids on the Block announced that they would be reuniting to record a new album and tour, 20-somethings around the country shrieked with glee. For girls who grew up sleeping on New Kids bedsheets, swapping trading cards with their friends, and fighting over who was the cutest member, this was a dream come true. But even as they pulled their New Kids t-shirts from storage, the question echoing in every fan's mind was, "Can they do it again?"

The New Kids on the Block were the catalyst that started the boy band craze that dominates the current market. Super producer Maurice ...

New Kids Slam Backstreet Boys

September 2nd, 2008 11:46am EDT
Newly reformed New Kids On The Block have hit out at fellow boy-band Backstreet Boys - insisting their comeback will be much more successful.

Backstreet Boys have taken several breaks from the music scene throughout their career, and each time their return has failed to replicate the success of their heyday in the 1990s. New Kids On The Block recently reunited after 15 years away from the pop market, but they insist that their comeback will eclipse the recent efforts of the Backstreet Boys.

Singer Danny Wood says, "Backstreet's records sound the same as before - their music didn...

It's All In The Name: Current Music Acts With The Worst Names

June 12th, 2008 1:47pm EDT
The Red Jumpsuit Apparatus
So, what's in a name you may ask? Apparently, everything. A music act or band's name should be concise, easy to remember, easy to say, and make some sort of cognitive impression. We've compiled a list here of current bands with names that just don't make a lot of sense.

The Goth Rock band HIM strangely carries a name that has long been traditionally regarded as a religious associative term. Plus, finding the band on some music search engines is still like trying to find a needle in a haystack.

Lil Wayne's 'Lollipop' Takes Another Lick At Number One

May 26th, 2008 1:30pm EDT
Lil Wayne
Lil Wayne has licked the competition in the Billboard pop charts again by returning to the top of the countdown three weeks after his "Lollipop" hit was dethroned. He jumps over Leona Lewis, who ended his brief reign on top last month, and Rihanna, who stormed to the top of the charts with "Take A Bow" last week, to reclaim the number one spot.

Usher's "Love in This Club" and Jordin Sparks' "No Air" round out the new top five.

The New Kids On The Block reunion seems to have come at the right time - the "Cover Girl" hitmakers score the week's highest debut, at 57, with comeback son...
