Rock guitarist David Michael Navarro was born June 7, 1967, in Santa Monica, California, to James Raul Navarro and Constance Colleen Hopkins. His parents divorced when he was just seven, after which he moved to Bel Air with his mother.

But tragedy struck in 1983 when Connie Navarro was murdered by her ex-boyfriend, John Riccardi, after breaking up with him. Riccardi broke into her apartment and shot and killed Navarro and her best friend, Susan Jory.

Riccardi spent nearly a decade on the run after the crime, but TV crime series America's Most Wanted ran Navarro's story and he was apprehended in Houston, Texas, on January 4, 1991. Riccardi was sentenced to death by a jury in 1994; however the California Supreme Court reversed the death sentence in 2012.

Dave Navarro is best known as the lead guitarist of Jane's Addiction. He played with them from 1986 until their breakup in 1991; reuniting with the band in 2002 for their first album in 13 years, "Strays," and again in 2008 for a reunion tour. The band released their fourth studio album, "The Great Escape Artist" in 2011.

The guitarist joined the Red Hot Chili Peppers in 1993 after Jane's Addiction broke up; and he played on the band's 1995 album, "One Hot Minute." He departed in 1998. His work has been featured on hit singles for the likes of Nine Inch Nails, Guns N' Roses, Christina Aguilera, and Marilyn Manson.

Navarro co-hosted TV talent show "Rock Star" for two seasons with model Brooke Burke: Rock Star INXS in 2005 and Rock Star Supernova in 2006.

Dave has been married and divorced three times; most notably to actress/model Carmen Electra, who filed for divorce in 2006.
