Rapper Nas is planning to return to the classroom in the near future - because he regrets leaving high school before obtaining his diploma.

The "I Can" hitmaker, real name Nasir Jones, appeared at the Boys and Girls Club's 43rd annual National Keystone Conference in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania on Sunday to encourage youngsters to stay in school and finish their education.

He expressed his regret at turning his back on his studies before he could graduate, telling the audience, "The reality of it is, you need to keep educating yourself and I wish I had stayed in school."

Rapper Nas is facing an inflated bill from U.S. tax officials - the money he allegedly owes has spiraled from $2.6 million to more than $3.4 million. The hip-hop star was hit with the initial bill from officials at the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) in October last year, amid claims he had failed to keep up with his tax payments in 2006 and 2007.

However, bosses at the IRS have now filed court papers alleging the star owes more than $3 million, according to TMZ.com.

Rapper Nas has pleaded not guilty to contempt of court amid allegations he failed to pay child and spousal support to his estranged wife Kelis. The Milkshake singer filed for divorce from Nas last year, just months before giving birth to their son Knight in July.

The former couple has since been embroiled in a bitter divorce battle, prompting Kelis to file a contempt motion against the rapper, alleging he's failed to support his family financially.
