Baby On The Way For Carey Mulligan?

June 9th, 2015 1:33pm EDT
Carey Mulligan And Marcus Mumford Expecting First Child
Actress Carey Mulligan is expecting her first child with Mumford & Sons star Marcus Mumford.

The Drive star hasn't formally announced her pregnancy yet, but she wore a pair of concealing dresses at two recent events -- last month's Met Gala and the Tony Awards, held on Sunday evening -- that appeared to hide any sign of a growing baby bump.

Mulligan was nominated for the Best Performance by an Actress in a Leading Role Tony for her part in "Skylight," and sources told Us Weekly that the couple "weren't planning on announcing" her pregnancy and that "she hasn't stopped working."

These Artists Aren't Afraid To Show Their Faith

May 30th, 2015 5:00pm EDT
Carrie Underwood
Carrie Underwood notched her seventeenth Billboard Music Award this month with her song, “Something In The Water,” taking home the honors of ‘Best Christian Song.’ Despite criticisms of her Christian lyrical-nature, Underwood won’t give in to those spreading hate.

“I’m not the first person to sing about God, Jesus, faith [or] any of that, and I won’t be the last. And it won’t be the last for me, either,” she told Glamour Magazine back in 2012.

Underwood is just one of many artists that aren’t afraid to speak out in support of their faith or put it into a song, and some of the musicians on...

'Pitch Perfect 2' Tops This Week

The 'Pitch Perfect 2' Soundtrack Is Aca-Awesome At No. 1
Who had an “Aca-awesome” week on the Billboard 200? That would be the original motion picture soundtrack for Pitch Perfect 2, which debuts at #1. Pitch Perfect 2 definitely benefitted from the success of the original Pitch Perfect soundtrack and movie, hence the energetic 107,000 units start. Lately, soundtracks have been on a roll on the albums chart, and Pitch Perfect 2 isn’t about to end the run.

Besides Pitch Perfect 2, the only other new release to enter the top 10 was Incubus’ EP, Trust Fall (Side A), which landed at #6 with a modest 40,000 units. With Incubus’ EP being the fi...

How Did Mumford & Sons New Album Perform?

May 14th, 2015 10:09am EDT
Mumford & Sons Take ‘Wilder Mind’ To No. 1 On Billboard
Unsurprisingly, Mumford & Sons cruised to a career second #1 album with Wilder Mind. Despite retooling their banjo-heavy style, plenty of people still joined the British band’s party – 249,000 to be exact, with most of those equating to copies sold. Go back three years earlier when Babel and mad banjo were still thriving, and the numbers were loftier to the tune of 600,000. Still, given the new normal of album sales and a new way to calculate the overall impact of an album, Mumford & Sons performed well.

It wasn’t all about Wilder Mind contrary to popular belief (or the majority of s...

Another week, a different #1 album – isn’t that how the old saying goes? After Alabama Shakes topped the Billboard 200 last week, this week country band Zac Brown Band takes over the top spot. Unsurprisingly, Zac Brown Band did work, as Jekyll + Hyde impacted to the tune of 228,000 units, with nearly 94% of those ‘units’ being sales. There was never any doubt that Zac Brown Band would come out on top as the closest competition, Josh Groban’s Stages, lands at #2 with 180,000 units, with nearly all of those comprising of sales. So in essence, the Billboard 200 is top-heavy this week.

Is Mumford & Sons Highly Anticipated Third Album Any Good?

May 6th, 2015 10:53am EDT
Mumford & Sons - Wilder Mind
“What was I thinking?” Oprah once asked that question on The Oprah Winfrey Show when she was criticizing her past fashion choices. The same sentiment could be referenced towards Mumford & Sons’ highly anticipated third album, Wilder Mind. Indeed, Wilder Mind is an expansion to modern rock by the former folk-loving band, but the makeover is quite drastic with only middling results. If Mumford & Sons’ mark is to modernize its sound, then that is achieved and blatantly obvious on the album’s opener, “Tompkins Square Park.” However if Mumford & Sons are looking for a deeper artistic stateme...

New Album Releases To Check Out This Week

May 5th, 2015 11:19am EDT
Mumford & Sons Leads Albums To Check Out
April was a slower month for new album releases across the board. It wasn’t quite like “watching paint dry,” but there was an absence of blockbuster releases with staying power. A perfect example of the lack of staying power – Shawn Mendes’ Handwritten debuted at #1 and proceeded to fall to #17 the following week. May is much more promising from the jump, as there are many notable releases dropping on an off-cycle May 4 (Monday) release date. Leading the charge is Mumford & Sons, but they are by no means the sole attraction this week.

1) Mumford & Sons, Wilder Mind (Glassnote)

As I covered in the introduction of last year’s installment, there are a few basic questions I’ll ask myself when I get started, stuff like: will this album be remembered in few years?

This question is most easily answered when an album contributes in a relevant way to the social culture of that given year (I’m looking at you, Britney 2000 Edition Spears). But sometimes, funny things happen and one finds that cultural relevan...
