Minus the Bear is an indie rock band from Seattle, Washington that was formed in 2001 by Jake Snider on lead vocals and guitar, Dave Knudson on guitar, Cory Murchy on bass, Matt Bayles on keyboard and Erin Tate on drums. The band's debut album, “Highly Refined Pirates” emerged in 2002 on Suicide Squeeze Records and received positive responses from the press and local audiences in Seattle. The band started out playing gigs in and around Seattle and developed a core following before branching out on small tours of the west coast of the States.

Their second offering, “Menos el Oso” appeared three years later in 2005, followed by keyboardist Bayles leaving the band a year later to pursue a career as a record producer. Alex Rose replaced Bayles and began work on the band's third studio album, “Planet of Ice,” which was released in 2007, again through Suicide Squeeze Records. The album produced the successful song, “Knights.”

2010 marked a change in record labels for the band, signing to Dangerbird Records and releasing their debut album for the label later that year called “Omni.” 2012 marked the band's return to the studio to begin work on their fifth studio album with former keyboard player, Matt Bayles producing.
