'Where Wild Things Are' Author Maurice Sendak Dies

Legendary author Maurice Sendak has passed away at the age of 83.

The writer, known for his best-selling children's classic Where the Wild Things Are, died in Danbury, Connecticut, on Tuesday due to complications from a recent stroke, his long-time editor Michael di Capua tells the New York Times.

Sendak penned 17 books and was also a talented illustrator, a skill which was mostly self-taught. His popular book Where the Wild Things Are was transformed into a Hollywood film in 2009.

Pop star Mika is keeping a bedside vigil for his sister after she was admitted to the hospital following a freak fall out of a window.

The Grace Kelly hit-maker was with his sibling, Paloma Penniman, in the early hours of Sunday morning when she fell 50 feet from a window at her home and landed on a metal rail. Penniman's legs were both impaled and one spike from the railing entered her abdomen, according to reports.

Mika has revealed that he had only three days to write his song Kick Ass (We Are Young) for the film Kick-Ass. However, the star feels the effort is worth it after seeing the buzz building around the movie.

Mika was shown the movie in a private screening, then offered the title track - if he could write a song in three days. He says producers usually choose from his existing music for their soundtracks, but Mika says after watching the flick he had to take on the challenge.
