Review: Martina McBride, ‘Everlasting’

April 15th, 2014 9:15pm EDT
Martina McBride - Everlasting
Martina McBride balances soul music and her country roots soundly on Everlasting

Veteran country superstar Martina McBride’s 12th album, Everlasting, is certainly a surprise. No, McBride doesn’t go radical and become a pop artist or anything like that, but rather than opting for new original material, she hearkens back to the past. What specifically from the past one asks does Mrs. McBride hearken back to? Soul. While a country artist singing soul music seems somewhat far-fetched given the contrasts of styles, Everlasting proves to be an enjoyable and effective album. McBride isn’t suddenl...

Music Review: Blake Shelton, 'Red River Blue'

July 12th, 2011 8:00am EDT
Blake Shelton
I like Blake Shelton as a person - and with his latest album, Red River Blue, he's made me like country music.

No offense to country fans, but I'm a hard case to convince; to give you an idea, I admit to owning one Garth Brooks album, but only because I used it to get partiers in my college dorm to go away. Red River Blue is an album that's sure to hang around your CD player for awhile. At least, it's still in mine. Many of the songs have hooks that...
