Mary Jane Girls was a an R&B/soul/disco group founded in the 1980s and consisting of vocalists Joanne McDuffie, Cheri Wells, Candice Ghant, Kimberly Wuletich, Yvette Marine and sisters Maxine Waters and Julia Waters. The group was the incarnation of Rick James, who handpicked the members to mold them in an all-girl group. The members of Mary Jane Girls were backing singers in various bands before James discovered them and shopped his idea to Motown Records. 1983 saw the release of their self-titled debut album which produced the hits, “Candy Man,” “Boys,” and “All Night Long.” Shortly before releasing their second album, 1985’s “Only Four You,” Wells left the group and was...
