A Guy’s Perspective: 13 Songs About Girls
When it comes to girls, it’s pretty easy to get a guy’s attention. Perhaps the attention span is shorter for other things he doesn’t want to do, but when it comes to the ladies, he’s “all ears.” Just think how many songs guys have written/sung about girls – endless! These songs range from chivalrous and dedicated to ‘strip down and let’s make love.’ We could never hope to cover all the songs about girls written from a guy’s point of view, but here are 13 worthwhile ones that clearly speak to the power girls have upon guys.

What Makes These 21 Songs So Manly?

8/16/2015 3:00pm EDT
21 Of The Manliest Songs – Sort Of!
What makes a song manly? Is it courage, resolve, or being hard-nosed? Maybe it’s chugging beer, playing/watching football, and “wearing the pants” in the household. Well in the case of this manly list – 21 of the Manliest Songs – Sort Of! – the only requirement to be manly is to have some form of the word “man” in the song title. Ah, the "all-inclusiveness" is so impressive. No, not every “man” song graced this – that mean’s you Mulan soundtrack standout “I’ll Make A Man Out Of You” – but there’s plenty of manly selections to pique your machismo!

Who Took The Top Spot On The Billboard 200 This Week?

4/16/2015 11:56am EDT
‘Furious 7’ Soundtrack Bests All Time Low For Top Spot On The Bi
It was a good week to be a soundtrack, specifically the soundtrack to Furious 7. After ascending to the #2 spot on the Billboard 200 last week, Furious 7 sits atop the charts this week. The improvement in units from the previous week are quite substantial – 111,000 units this week versus 74,000 the previous week. Making Furious 7’s ascent on the Billboard 200 is what the soundtrack did on the Billboard Hot 100, namely “See You Again.”

“See You Again” did the unthinkable – killed Mark Ronson and Bruno Mars’ vibe. How so? “See You Again” stopped “Uptown Funk” from breaking a tie for th...

Kendrick Lamar's 'To Pimp A Butterfly' Tops Billboard Charts

3/26/2015 9:27am EDT
Kendrick Lamar Takes 'To Pimp A Butterfly' To Number One
After dropping a ‘five-star masterpiece’ with his sophomore album To Pimp A Butterfly, Kendrick Lamar reaps the benefits from topping the Billboard 200 – his first career number-one album. To Pimp A Butterfly easily topped the charts, selling 324,000 copies and impacting even more robustly with 363,000 units according to Billboard. The two best debuting albums of 2015 come by way of hip-hop efforts, an interesting fact. For Kendrick, he has definitely ‘come up.’

Kendrick Lamar might’ve been the star pupil of this week’s charts, but two others got in on some top 10 action. Modest Mous...

1) Pink Floyd, “Run Like Hell” (The Wall, 1979)

YouTuber Voice Impressionist Sings 'Uptown Funk' Using 'Family G
The Mark Bronson and Bruno Mars song "Uptown Funk" is currently blowing up on the charts, but you've never heard the hit sung like this before.

A YouTuber named Mikey Bolts has released a unique cover of the song, sung entirely in cartoon voices. The impressionist has particularly great takes on Peter Griffin, Stewie and Joe Swanson from the hit Fox show Family Guy.

"Family Guy" creator Seth MacFarlane probably isn't going anywhere anytime soon, but if he ever needs a day off, we now know just the guy for the job.

Bolts also throws in a few voices from other popular adult cartoons like "...

Celebrities That Turn 30 In 2015
30 years seems like a long time ago… because it was. In 1985 our world was waist deep in the glories of the 80s. We had hair bands, Care Bears, Swatches, the birth of Super Mario Brothers – what more could you ask for?

Also that year Ronald Reagan was sworn in his second term as President of the United States, the Coca-Cola Company decided we needed a new Coke (which sucked) and Windows 1.0 was released.

1985 marked the big Live Aid world concerts and famous artists got together to sing “We are the World.” Top songs on the airwaves that year included: Like a Virgin- Madonna, Don't You (Fo...

Review: Mark Ronson Delivers Vibrant Funk On 'Uptown Special'
“They tried to make me go to rehab but I said no, no, no!” If you’ve ever heard those immortal lyrics from Amy Winehouse Grammy-winning “Rehab,” then you’ve heard the awe inspiring work of Mark Ronson. Ronson gained notoriety for producing Winehouse’s Back To Black album, one of the more important releases of the 00s. Though his work with Winehouse really brought Ronson to the forefront, he’s released a couple of albums himself. His latest, the infectious, soul-driven Uptown Special marks his first in five-years (Record Collection dropping in 2010) and is led by killer funked-up Bruno Ma...

Taylor Swift Makes It An Eight-Peat Atop Billboard 200

1/8/2015 11:33am EST
Taylor Swift Makes It An Eight In A Row Atop Billboard 200
Maybe DJ Khaled and Drake said it best: “No New Friends.” Applied to the current Billboard 200, the phrase is best attributed, “no new releases” of note. That said no one is shocked to hear that the invincible Taylor Swift rules the charts for an eighth non-consecutive week. Even with units and sales alike down from the previous week, 1989 still stood tall, selling 172,000 copies.

Swift was unopposed at the top spot, with the next closest album in sales (Guardians of the Galaxy Soundtrack) and impact (Nicki Minaj’s The Pinkprint) not coming anywhere close. 172,000 versus 70,000 copies ...

Taylor Swift Easily Keeps The Number One Spot Red Hot On The Billboard 200

Taylor Swift Easily Keeps The Number One Spot Red Hot On The Bil
She's bleeping unstoppable – like totally! As much as the talk of the queen – aka Taylor Swift – has grown old, she just keeps on dominating the music industry like it’s never been dominated before. She's beastly – in the most distinguished and ladylike manner possible. Cutting to the chase and the 'pure' sales total, Swift sold another 326,000 copies of 1989, impacting with an even more robust number of 'units'. Nobody seems to be able to 'shake off' Swift and if she was shakable, the industry would be left with a void - a "Blank Space" (get it?).

Speaking of “Blank Space,” it adds fur...

‘SNL’ Recap: Cameron Diaz/Mark Ronson And Bruno Mars

11/24/2014 8:20am EST
'Saturday Night Live' Season 40, Episode 7 Review: Cameron Diaz/
When people look back through the annals of “SNL,” this episode may go down as the one when the Season 40 cast fully discovered its confidence. But since episodes are usually cataloged by the guests, this one might be hard to identify, because the guests did not do anything spectacular. Mark Ronson and Bruno Mars came in and performed a couple of songs, while host Cameron Diaz did not have any showcase performances. She gamely slotted in to whatever role she was needed in, but this episode was about the likes of Leslie Jones, Kyle Mooney, Aidy Bryant, and Beck Bennett asserting themselve...

Why Bruno Mars Serenaded This Young Girl

Bruno Mars
A video of Bruno Mars serenading a young girl during his concert last Saturday has become an Internet hit, and now we know why the entertainer took the time to sing just for her.

Zumyah Thorpe was involved in a serious car accident in March of 2013. According to WKYC, a drunk driver smashed into a car carrying the 11-year-old Zumyah, killing her pregnant mother and her two younger sisters. Zumyah and an older sister suvived, but Zumyah suffered injuries that robbed her of sight and forced doctors to remove part of her skull.

While recovering at UH Rainbow Babies & Children's Hospital in O...

115 Million People Tuned Into Bruno Mars' Super Bowl Halftime Show

115 Million People Tuned Into Bruno Mars' Super Bowl Halftime Sh
Bruno Mars' performance at Super Bowl XLVIII was a huge hit for the FOX network - more people watched the singer and the Red Hot Chili Peppers than any other act in Super Bowl history.

More than 115 million people tuned into the 12-minute set - 1 million more than the record set by Madonna in 2012 and 5 million more than Beyonce last year.

Mars, who at 28 was the youngest solo artist ever to perform during the halftime show, sang "Locked Out of Heaven," "Treasure" and "Runaway Baby" before the Chili Peppers took the stage to perform "Give It Away."

Review: Super Bowl XLVIII's Music Performances Exceed Expectations

2/3/2014 8:10pm EST
Bruno Mars
2014 is all about trying new things, personally and professionally – or something like that. Last year, I put my two cents in about the Super Bowl halftime show, but didn’t critique the other performances – “America The Beautiful” and of course “The Star Spangled Banner.” Rather than merely focusing on what my boy Bruno Mars did, I’mma give some analysis to Queen Latifah (“American The Beautiful”) and Renée Fleming (“The Star Spangled Banner”) as well. And yes, it is love – for the most part!

Bruno Mars, Red Hot Chili Peppers Deliver An Entertaining Halftime Show At Super Bowl XLVIII

Bruno Mars, Red Hot Chili Peppers Deliver An Entertaining Halfti
Bruno Mars and the Red Hot Chili Peppers rocked the Super Bowl half-time show on Sunday night. The singer and iconic band performed at the MetLife Stadium in New Jersey.

Mars, who at 28 was the youngest solo artist ever to perform during the half-time show, began his 12-minute set with a heart-pounding drum solo. He played on a custom-designed kit, which played tribute to his late mother, Bernadette Hernandez, who died in 2013. The bass drum was painted with a red heart and the name Bernadette running through it and was modeled after one of Mars' tattoos.

The singer traveled on a moving p...

The 5 Best And 5 Worst Super Bowl Halftime Shows Ever

1/29/2014 3:03pm EST
Bruno Mars
Bruno Mars will have the honor of entertaining Super Bowl halftime audiences that don't switch over to the Puppy Bowl this weekend. The history of the halftime show is a surprising display of ups-and-downs, from mind-blowing performances to corny overproduced ego trips. Here are some of the best and worst Super Bowl halftime shows:

Best: Michael Jackson, Super Bowl XXVII

The halftime show was hurting. Two years prior, the New Kids on the Block performance was pre-empted by coverage on Desert Storm and their performance was edited down and shown after the game. Then, FOX swooped in and sco...

2014 Grammy Awards Reactions: The Triumphs And Fails
Another year and another Grammys ceremony has come and passed. As always, there were moments that thrilled while others made me curse under my breath. Luckily, as a music journalist, this guy has learned how to think like the Recording Academy, hence the accuracy of many of my picks this year. Still, even being correct, you have to wonder what the Academy is thinking sometimes. Yes, I’m specifically referencing the fact that Kendrick Lamar was shut out – ridiculous! But here goes nothing examining the awards given.

The 56th Annual Grammy Awards Broadcast takes place on Sunday, January 26th. First things first, let’s look at the BIG FOUR predictions

Mars is expected to confirm the big announcement on Saturday during the Fox network broadcast of the New Orleans Saints play-off game against the Seattle Seahawks.

Rihanna, Bruno Mars Top List Of Most Pirated Artists Of 2013

12/31/2013 5:00pm EST
Fans love listening to Rihanna and Bruno Mars' music, but they don't necessarily like paying for it. The singers top a new list of the most pirated artists of 2013.

Even though Rihanna and Mars haven't released new albums since 2012, they are extremely popular on illegal file-sharing websites, with 5 million illegal downloads each over the past year.

According to, Daft Punk and Justin Timberlake were also popular music acts on Bit Torrent websites, accounting for approximately 4 million illegal downloads each over the past 12 months.

Rounding out the top five is Flo Rida,...

Bruno Mars Named Billboard Magazine's 2013 Artist Of The Year

12/13/2013 7:01pm EST
Bruno Mars
Billboard magazine has named Bruno Mars its Artist of the Year following his chart successes in 2013.

The singer's latest album, "Unorthodox Jukebox" netted three hit singles on the site's Hot 100 chart, including "Locked Out Of Heaven," which hit number-one for six weeks, "When I Was Your Man," and "Treasure."

Billboard notes that in a year in which the charts were also dominated by the likes of Taylor Swift, Katy Perry, Robin Thicke and rap duo Macklemore & Ryan Lewis, it was Mars who "commanded a steady presence" on the Billboard 200, in which "Jukebox" stayed in the top 20 from its De...

Thoughts On The 56th Annual Grammy Nominations

12/9/2013 8:50pm EST
Macklemore & Ryan Lewis
The Grammys are like a musician’s Super Bowl, even if the nominations and victorious artists are flawed.  I won’t lie to you, I complain every year that someone won a Grammy that didn’t deserve it while someone else was snubbed. Just last year, during the 55th Annual Grammys, I lobbied hard for Frank Ocean (looking back, I have reservations now) while Mumford & Sons walked out with the Album of the Year trophy.  The year that Taylor Swift won for Fearless, my girl Beyoncé was on a roll until the coveted Album of the Year award was read.  You get my position though! This year,  I find myself...

Freida Pinto Plays A Sexy Stripper In Bruno Mars' 'Gorilla' Video

10/16/2013 7:05pm EDT
Freida Pinto
Indian actress Freida Pinto takes center stage -- literally -- in the latest video from Bruno Mars.

"Gorilla" features Pinto as an exotic dancer named Isabella, who is also the love interest of the singer in the short film.

The two stars get hot and steamy in the back seat of a car; and the actress flaunts her sexy curves in some hot lingerie. She also shows off some pretty intense pole-dancing skills -- but since we only see her body during those parts it's a good bet producers used a body double. When she's not on the pole, it's all Freida though.

Two fellow dancers vow to ruin her bud...
