Maroon 5 Break Records With Digital Download Sales

4/26/2012 9:37am EDT
Maroon 5
Maroon 5 have made pop chart history by becoming the first band to top 490,000 digital download sales in a week.

The group's "Payphone" has come crashing into the Billboard Hot 100 at number three, challenging Aussie singer Gotye, whose "Somebody That I Used To Know" scores a second week at the top of the countdown.

The 493,000 sales logged by singer Adam Levine, his bandmates and guest Wiz Khalifa is almost 30,000 more than the Black Eyed Peas, who set the digital downloads record for groups in 2009 with Boom Boom Pow.

Flo Rida still holds the ultimate sales marker with 636,000 from the...

Adam Levine Looks Nerdy & Beat Up On The Set Of New Music Video

4/20/2012 3:00pm EDT
Adam Levine payphone video
We spotted singer Adam Levine splattered in fake blood while filming action scenes for Maroon 5's new music video "Payphone" in Downtown Los Angeles yesterday.

At one point "The Voice" judge drove a classic Shelby Cobra sports car before getting into a police chase on a bridge overlooking a scenic cityscape.

The singer seemed to be having a great time on set. At one point he gave the middle finger to photographers before breaking into laughter.

Next week Cee Lo Green and Adam have difficult decisions to make. Each must each pick off two contestants from their teams.

Big Time Rush's James Maslow Talks Big Summer Plans

4/18/2012 5:56am EDT
James Maslow
I'll admit it: when I hear the phrase "boy band," I'm one of those people who cringes. But I recently chatted with Big Time Rush member James Maslow, and he changed my mind a little bit.

BTR (consisting of Maslow, Kendall Schmidt, Carlos Pena, Jr. and Logan Henderson) is a boy band that was born out of the Nickelodeon TV series of the same name. In concept, their origin is reminiscent of The Monkees. Since 2009, the foursome have been acting in the half-hour musical/comedy series as well as releasing two albums. They'll be touring across the country this summer.

The group's origins migh...

'The Voice' Performance Show: Who Was Instantly Eliminated?

4/17/2012 8:00am EDT
The Voice
The producers of NBC's The Voice aren't making it easy: on Monday's performance show, an "instant elimination" forced two coaches to chop two artists before America's vote.

Neither the singers nor the coaches were fans of the surprise axe. Blake Shelton remarked that if he knew who was responsible for the idea, he'd kick them - and Team Blake's Erin Willett was quick to concur.

"I'm still unhappy with it. I think that's the worst thing we've done," said Team Christina's Chris Mann after the show.

Perhaps the only one to see any merit in the idea was Adam Levine, who remarked that it at...

'The Voice' Results Show: Which Four Artists Went Home?

4/11/2012 8:00am EDT
The Voice
It was decision time again on NBC's The Voice, this time for Team Adam and Team Cee Lo. Who did America save and who sung their last song Tuesday night?

For Team Adam, the bottom three were a trio of lovely ladies: Kim Yarbrough, Katrina Parker and Karla Davis. It was Katrina's heartbreaking rendition of No Doubt's "Don't Speak" that won her Adam's one reprieve.

On Team Cee Lo, facing elimination were Tony Vincent, Cheesa, and Erin Martin. Cheesa delivered a powerful version of Eric Carmen's "All By Myself" that earned her a second chance, despite Cee Lo first saying that his head was l...

Brittany's 'The Voice' Blog: Team Adam vs. Team Cee Lo!

4/10/2012 8:00am EDT
The Voice
Here's the latest on and around NBC's The Voice: Team Adam went head-to-head with Team Cee Lo, and I have my thoughts plus the artists share theirs post-show!

It was another entertaining night on The Voice on Monday, but perhaps even moreso because again, putting Team Cee Lo against...well, any of the other three teams really shows how distinct Cee Lo's ideas are. While Team Adam stuck with fairly simple setups (perhaps the most production came with the giant airplane wing that Karla Davis got to sing on), Team Red Zone had guitar players on stilts for Jamar Rogers and a whole Egyptian s...

Jennifer Love Hewitt Sorry For Admitting Celebrity Crush On Adam Levine

4/7/2012 2:00pm EDT
Jennifer Love Hewitt
Jennifer Love Hewitt has apologized to rocker Adam Levine for going public about her feelings for him, but feels the singer should have at least acknowledged her compliments.

The TV star offered herself up as the Maroon 5 frontman's new girl after hearing he had split from supermodel Anne Vyalitsnya earlier this week.

During an appearance on "The Ellen DeGeneres Show" she hinted that she'd like to hook up with newly-single Levine, telling the comedienne and host, "I'm just saying. Look, we would be cute."

But now Love Hewitt is backtracking after her remarks were met by a fury of press a...

'The Voice' Results Show: Who Went Home and The Reaction!

4/4/2012 8:00am EDT
The Voice
Last night America spoke on NBC's The Voice, sending two members of Team Christina and Team Blake home, leaving twenty artists to sing on.

Christina's team bid farewell to Sera Hill and Moses Stone, as Christina chose to save Ashley de la Rosa. Meanwhile, Blake kept Jordis Unga and lost Charlotte Sometimes and Naia Kete.

The results came after a new part of the show this season: a "sudden sing" where the bottom three got a chance to perform for their coach's save (as opposed to last season, where a coach selected one based on their previous live performance).

Some of America's votes we...

Adam Levine
Maroon 5 rocker Adam Levine has split from his model girlfriend Anne Vyalitsyna.

The pop star began dating the Russian beauty in early 2010 after they met at a Sports Illustrated launch party, but they have now decided to go their separate ways.

Vyalitsyna tells, "Adam and I have decided to separate in an amicable and supportive manner. We still love and respect each other as friends."

"I wish him all the best."

'The Voice' Recap: The Final Battles Have Surprising Results

3/27/2012 1:07am EDT
The Voice
We're down to the last battle rounds on The Voice. The last chance for hopeful artists to grab a spot in the live shows. (Can you believe we're headed into the last phase of the competition already? How time flies when you're singing your heart out!)

The night kicks off with Team Cee Lo: Wade vs. James Massone, with Cyndi Lauper's "True Colors." On first instinct, this might be a mismatch. But it wouldn't be the first time The Voice turns something that doesn't blatantly match into something special. James has his nerves get the better of him, and hesitates in first rehearsal, then ...

Brittany's 'The Voice' Blog: On Tour With...Dia Frampton!

3/20/2012 11:05am EDT
The Voice
Here's the latest on and around NBC's The Voice: Dia Frampton rocks Los Angeles, plus meet Team Adam's Nathan Parrett and Katrina Parker!

A reminder: if you missed any of last night's battle round action, you can read my recap, and don't miss my interview with Jewel on mentoring Team Christina.

Dia Frampton may not have won The Voice, but she's found plenty of success after the show. She released her album Red last year and joined her coach, Blake Shelton, on his "Well Lit and Amplified" Tour this spring.

But just because she hit the national stage on the show doesn't mean she's become...

'The Voice' Recap: Week 3's Battle Rounds Give '102 Percent'

3/20/2012 1:00am EDT
The Voice
We're now halfway through battle rounds on The Voice. There have been some fantastic battles so far - so who's next?

Well, that'd be Team Adam (yay!). My coach gets right down to business, matching Pip vs. Nathan Parrett, and sending them off with Amy Winehouse's "You Know I'm No Good." Nathan is a little intimidated by the fact that Pip got all four coaches to turn for him, which is understandable, but kind of hilarious because in practice, Pip thinks Adam might be favoring Andrew, so it all evens out. Pip gets to work with Alanis, while Nathan gets Robin Thicke. The latter result...

Happy Birthday, Adam Levine!

3/18/2012 11:30am EDT
Adam Levine
Maroon 5 front man and The Voice coach Adam Levine turns 33 today. Naturally, I couldn't let that happen without saying something.

There's no doubt that Levine is a professional success. With Maroon 5, he's got a huge following around the world, three Grammy Awards, and an American Music Award, plus countless nominations. He made history last year as the first artist to crack the Billboard charts both as a group (with "Moves Like Jagger") and as a solo artist (guesting on the Gym Class Heroes hit "Stereo Hearts"). He's a coach on the show that broke American Idol's ratings dominance and,...

Don't let appearances fool you: Team Red Zone's rocker Juliet Simms is surprisingly sweet and outgoing. She is more likely to make you laugh with how funny and approachable she is.

'The Voice' Recap: A Second Stunning Round of Battles

3/13/2012 1:00am EDT
The Voice
Last week's first round of The Voice battles was fantastic, so my expectations for week two were pretty high. Those expectations were definitely met.

Team Christina starts it off, with Geoff McBride vs. Sera Hill, armed with Aretha Franklin's "Chain of Fools." It's an interesting match of artists with a "big song," as Christina herself puts it. Sharp choice, Ms. Aguilera. Geoff draws Lionel Richie as his advisor, and has to take a moment before they start rehearsing. Lionel is floored by the volume of Geoff's vocals, but wants him to make sure he conveys personality and character. ...

Adam Levine To Launch First Fragrance

3/8/2012 9:35am EST
Adam Levine
Singer Adam Levine is set to become the latest pop star to launch his own fragrance.

The Maroon 5 frontman's first scent, 222 by Adam Levine, is scheduled to hit department stores in May next year.

A spokesman for ID Perfumes, who have partnered with Levine for the project, says, "Adam is a performer with tremendous charisma, both on stage and on TV. Endeavoring to capture that in a bottle has thus far been very exciting and we're certain the final products will be even more so."

Britney Spears, Selena Gomez, Black Eyed Peas star Fergie and Justin Bieber are among the chart stars who ...

'The Voice' Recap: Season 2's First Battle Rounds Make A Huge Statement

3/6/2012 1:06am EST
The Voice
The chairs are done turning, and now it's time to go to battle. We start season two battle rounds this week on The Voice, and just like last season, they are both beautiful and painful. They're great because we get some absolutely wonderful duets, but they hurt because we have to say goodbye to half the artists.

Team Adam leads off, and the first battle pairing of season two is Tony Lucca vs. Chris Cauley. "You guys are going to be singing in harmony and secretly trying to destroy each other," Adam says, which is both hilarious and accurate. He gives them U2's hit (and sometimes o...

Adam Levine
Here's the latest on and around NBC's The Voice: coach Adam Levine had a very busy Monday, on not one but four TV shows on the same day! Miss any? We've got the scoop.

If you've been keeping up, you know that Adam has been making the TV rounds of recent, appearing on NBC's Today and The Tonight Show with Jay Leno. However, he took one step closer to world domination when three of his TV appearances ended up airing on the same day as a new episode of The Voice.

Adam started the day on Access Hollywood Live, where he was asked again about if there was a hostility between him and Christina A...

'The Voice' Recap: Season 2 Blind Auditions, Part 5

2/28/2012 12:56am EST
The Voice
After five nights (or expanding by 1.5 times the size of last season), The Voice's blind auditions come to a close. What do the final rosters look like? Who's your favorite team?

Whitney Myer arrives with her version of Alicia Keys' "No One," and though Adam looks like he's taking a nap, he loves what he hears because he hits his button. He's only the first of all four judges to do so. Though Blake declares he's a fan of hers regardless of who she picks, Whitney goes with Adam.

David Dunn shows up with The Script's "The Man Who Can't Be Moved,: which Adam appears to have some sort of un...

Ladies and gentlemen, most of your 48 artists for season two of The Voice have now been revealed. Whose blind auditions won them the final spots and who just missed the cut? Read on...

We lead off with a 26-year-old guy called Ducky, which gives me all kinds of Pretty In Pink vibes. He's hoping that making it onto a team will prove to his girlfriend he's stable enough to marry, among other things. His rendition of "Tighten Up" gives us another one of those situations where all the coaches are pointing at each other but not doing anything themselves. Carson wonders aloud why Adam isn'...

Behind The Wheel Of History's 'Top Gear'

2/14/2012 1:00pm EST
Top Gear
"American Top Gear."

It's a phrase that's struck dread in the hearts of many for years. Fans of the hit BBC series - those of us sitting at home with our Jeremy Clarkson books and 'I Am The Stig' T-shirts, and yes, I am one - have heard rumblings about a US import and almost immediately worried one would go south (see: the American adaptation of Coupling, etc.) Yet after a false start (a busted NBC pilot hosted by Adam Carolla), History Channel made the concept a reality two years ago.

And guess what? It's not a nightmare. In fact, it's pretty good.

The cynics - and yes, I was one - are ...

'The Voice' Recap: Season 2 Blind Auditions, Part 3

2/14/2012 1:03am EST
The Voice
Last season on The Voice, we'd be finished with blind auditions now; this year, we're into our third night of team selection.

Leading off the night is someone else who's struggled with image issues in the past: Houston-based folk singer Sarah Golden, whose sound catches the attention of Cee Lo. Blake decides to give him a little competition at the last moment. Christina seems to spend a moment inspecting her manicure. Cee Lo tells Sarah she can't handle them both, and while Adam's laughing at that, she goes with Team Red Zone. "Cee Lo is normally asleep during the show," Blake gri...

My 10 Celebrity Valentines For 2012

2/13/2012 11:00am EST
Adam Levine
Valentine's Day is almost upon us. I don't have a valentine this year, but I'd like to give a few out to 10 celebs whose work I have particular affection for.

1. Adam Levine

My favorite The Voice coach is someone I'll always admire, and deservedly so: he has more hardware than a Home Depot. This past year alone, he and Maroon 5 scored their first American Music Award, a People's Choice Award and a Grammy nomination. I totally concur with my friend Jesse Blaze Snider, who referred to them as a band "with three near-perfect albums." (And a fourth on the way, reportedly due in June.)
