Jeff Beck, Foo Fighters & Manic Street Preachers Lead Classic Rock Awards

Guitar great Jeff Beck, the Foo Fighters and the Manic Street Preachers were among the big winners at the Classic Rock Roll Of Honor Awards in London on Wednesday night.

Dave Grohl's group walked away with the Band of the Year trophy, while the Manic Street Preachers were handed the Classic Songwriters prize at the ceremony, held at the English capital's Roundhouse venue.

Jeff Beck's lifetime achievements were recognized as he collected the Living Legend Award, following in the footsteps of previous recipients like Ozzy Osbourne, Alice Cooper and Iggy Pop.

British rockers the Manic Street Preachers will compete against the likes of The Joy Formidable and Funeral For A Friend for the newly-established Welsh Music Prize.

The award is designed as the equivalent to the U.K.'s prestigious Mercury Music Prize and a shortlist of 10 artists was released this week.

The A Design For Life hit-makers have been nominated for their album Postcards From A Young Man, while The Joy Formidable's The Big Roar and Welcome Home Armageddon by Funeral For A Friend are among the records in competition.

British pop star Jessie J broke her hiatus from music on Saturday to perform a homecoming show at V Festival in her native Essex, England.

The singer scrapped a number of concerts this summer after breaking her foot, but she refused to let the injury stop her performing at the British music festival, which takes place over two legs in Stafford, north England and Chelmsford in Essex.

Jessie J, who grew up in the region, took to the stage at the Chelmsford event on Saturday wearing a protective surgical boot and played to a crowd which included a number of her friends and family.

Oasis, U2 and Arctic Monkeys all emerged triumphant at the 2006 Q Music Awards in London today, taking home two awards each. Oasis was named "Best Act In The World Today" while the band's Noel Gallagher took home the "Classic Songwriter" award at the Grosvenor Hotel ceremony.
