March 10th, 2014 4:10am EDT
Macklemore & Ryan Lewis
Macklemore & Ryan Lewis' huge hit Thrift Shop has been named the best-performing rap song of the past 25 years.

The musicians earned two Grammy Awards in January (14) for the popular tune, and according to a new list compiled by editors at U.S. music magazine Billboard, they can celebrate yet again after Thrift Shop landed the number one spot on the Top 100 Hot Rap Songs chart, which ranks the best-performing tracks since 1989.

Despite the fact the track was only released in 2012, its stellar performance on the weekly Hot Rap Songs chart over the subsequent 18 months makes it number one o...

Why The Rap Community Is Mad About Macklemore & Ryan Lewis’ Grammy Wins

January 29th, 2014 11:47am EST
Why The Rap Community Is Mad About Macklemore & Ryan Lewis’ Gram
No other act received more criticism for their Grammy success then Macklemore & Ryan Lewis.  Ultimately, the rap community was pretty pissed off.   After so many years of rap being under recognized by the Recording Academy, now an act grabs a victory in one of the coveted big four categories (Best New Artist) and the fans are not pleased.  Why the wall of hatred for Macklemore & Ryan Lewis?  Ultimately, it’s not so much about the Seattle MC or his producer pal; it’s more about the perception of rap by the Academy voters.  With a golden opportunity before them to award the more representativ...

Macklemore & Ryan Lewis
Macklemore & Ryan Lewis decided to stage multiple wedding ceremonies during their Grammy Awards performance because so many fans get engaged on stage during their concerts.

The Thrift Shop hitmakers walked away with four awards at Sunday's (26Jan14) prizegiving in Los Angeles, but it was their ambitious wedding stunt which grabbed headlines.

Queen Latifah officiated as 33 couples tied the knot in the Staples Center during the duo's rendition of gay rights anthem Same Love with Mary Lambert and Madonna, and the rap stars have now revealed their fans inspired the performance.

2014 Grammy Awards Reactions: The Triumphs And Fails
Another year and another Grammys ceremony has come and passed. As always, there were moments that thrilled while others made me curse under my breath. Luckily, as a music journalist, this guy has learned how to think like the Recording Academy, hence the accuracy of many of my picks this year. Still, even being correct, you have to wonder what the Academy is thinking sometimes. Yes, I’m specifically referencing the fact that Kendrick Lamar was shut out – ridiculous! But here goes nothing examining the awards given.

The Big Four: Record, Album and Song of the Year & Best New Artist

Macklemore Tells Kendrick Lamar 'I Robbed You' Following Grammy Win

January 27th, 2014 4:03pm EST
Macklemore & Ryan Lewis
Macklemore won four Grammys last night, but he texted pal Kendrick Lamar to let him know he should've won at least one.

The rapper texted Kendrick soon after the Grammys ended, "You got robbed. I wanted you to win. You should have. It's weird and sucks that I robbed you. I was gonna say that during the Speech. Then the music started playing during my speech and I froze. Anyway, you know what it is. Congrats on this year and your music. Appreciate you as an artist and as a friend. Much love."

Macklemore then posted a photo of his text to Kendrick on Twitter with the caption, "My text to Ke...

After sitting on it a while, it is time to make one last set of predictions before Sunday’s broadcast. Here goes nothing! Picks are in bold.

First things first, let’s look at the BIG FOUR predictions

1) Record of the Year

Macklemore And Ryan Lewis Rock NYC Bus To Promote The Grammys

January 15th, 2014 4:03pm EST
Macklemore and Ryan Lewis
A group of New York City commuters got the surprise of a lifetime when Grammy nominated artists Macklemore and Ryan Lewis appeared for an impromptu performance.

As part of the Grammy's Music Unleashes Us promotion, the awards show set up a few hidden cameras and planted a few fake bus riders on a random New York City bus in November. At one of the stops the two superstars hopped on and all seemed normal - until this happened:

Ryan Lewis broke out a boombox that played the hook to Can't Hold Us and Macklemore began rapping, which seemed to disturb a few of the bus riders who did not know...

Thoughts On The 56th Annual Grammy Nominations

December 9th, 2013 8:50pm EST
Macklemore & Ryan Lewis
The Grammys are like a musician’s Super Bowl, even if the nominations and victorious artists are flawed.  I won’t lie to you, I complain every year that someone won a Grammy that didn’t deserve it while someone else was snubbed. Just last year, during the 55th Annual Grammys, I lobbied hard for Frank Ocean (looking back, I have reservations now) while Mumford & Sons walked out with the Album of the Year trophy.  The year that Taylor Swift won for Fearless, my girl Beyoncé was on a roll until the coveted Album of the Year award was read.  You get my position though! This year,  I find myself...

K-Pop Group Takes Top Prize At First YouTube Music Awards

November 4th, 2013 1:07pm EST
Girls' Generation
The winner of the Video of the Year was the relatively-unknown group Girls' Generation at the inaugural YouTube Music Awards.

Every awards show has growing pains, especially during its first show. Hey, even the Academy Awards has issues after 85. However, the online streaming show was at times hectic and at others completely bereft of content. For example, at one point comedic hosts Jason Schwartzman and Reggie Watts were given two crying babies while they were trying to interview Macklemore and Ryan Lewis.

Perhaps giving the top prize to Korean girl group Girls' Generation was apt given ...

A$AP Rocky upset with his behaviour at MTV VMAs

September 11th, 2013 8:40pm EDT
A$AP Rocky
Rapper A$Ap Rocky has apologised for his "homophobic" behaviour at the MTV Video Music Awards.

The hip-hop star appeared to be a little awkward as he stood by openly gay basketball player Jason Collins while he talked about his struggles as a gay athlete just before the odd couple introduced Macklemore & Ryan Lewis.

A$AP Rocky pulled a face and simply promoted the release of the A$AP Ferg album when the mic was passed to him at the Barclays Center in New York, and now he has watched the footage he can understand why some might think he's anti-gay.

In an interview with The Stashed, he say...

MTV VMAs: Macklemore Hoping To Thank Justin Timberlake For 'Years Of Pain'

August 25th, 2013 4:44pm EDT
"Thrift Shop" singer Macklemore is hoping to finally one-up childhood rival Justin Timberlake at Sunday night's MTV Video Music Awards.

The Macklemore & Ryan Lewis rapper, real name Ben Haggerty, spent years in the shadows of Timberlake after the "Suit & Tie" singer bested him numerous times throughout the beginning of their careers.

But Macklemore isn't bitter -- he plans on thanking JT if he wins any of the five awards he's nominated for at tonight's ceremony.

"Justin and I have been competitive for years... It started out as a basketball rivalry, hot dog eating championship, where we ...

August 19th, 2013 8:30pm EDT
Ryan Lewis
DJ/producer Ryan Lewis has revealed he dodged an AIDS bullet at birth because his mother was HIV positive from a blood transfusion.

One half of chart-topping duo Macklemore & Ryan Lewis, the hitmaker has opened up about his mum's health battle in a new Rolling Stone article, confessing she contracted the disease years before he was born - but didn't realise she was ill until her son was a baby.
