Rapper Machine Gun Kelly was the toast of university students on Thursday after landing the top prize at the 2013 mtvU Woodie Awards.

College-age viewers across the country voted for their favorite acts at the 9th annual ceremony in Austin, Texas hosted by mtvU, the college branch of MTV.

The La La La hit-maker took home the Woodie of the Year trophy, and told the audience, "As many dark times that we've had, the fans have always shown me the light and I'm ready to take on the world with them. F**king thank you!"

Rapper Machine Gun Kelly has dismissed reports suggesting he trashed computers during a show which was shut down by cops last week.

The rising star, real name Richard Colson Baker, was hired by bosses at The Source Magazine to deliver a short set at the Microsoft store in Atlanta, Georgia's Lenox Square mall to celebrate the release of their latest issue.

However, the performance was said to have ended in chaos after Baker jumped up on a table displaying expensive laptops and allegedly refused to get down, prompting organizers to bring in officers to escort him from the building.
