Lady Gaga's Meat Dress Named Top Fashion Statement Of 2010

December 15th, 2010 10:50pm EST
Lady Gaga
Lady Gaga's meaty ensemble at this year's MTV Video Music Awards has been lauded by Time magazine editors as the number one Fashion Statement of 2010.

The "Poker Face" hitmaker shocked at the September event when she donned a dress made from hide and cuts of meat, complete with a matching head piece and purse.

And Gaga's innovative dress has landed her on top of Time's annual countdown, beating weird and wonderful outfits by M.I.A., tennis superstar Venus Williams and Rihanna.

Editors write, "If making fashion statements is your primary raison d'être (reason for existence), it's easy to ...

M.I.A. refuses to have a "quickie wedding" to mend her immigration woes in America - because she dreams of a grand ceremony when she marries fiance Benjamin Bronfman.

The London-born hip-hop star has previously been locked out of her adopted America over visa issues, brought about by controversial comments she has made about conflict in her parents' native Sri Lanka and her father's alleged links to terrorist group the Tamil Tigers, but now she's back in New York she has been advised not to leave until the immigration problems are solved.

And she's not taking the easy route to get ...

Courtney Love Still Upset Over Vanity Fair Article

June 23rd, 2010 7:53pm EDT
Courtney Love
Courtney Love has taken aim at the journalist M.I.A. attacked last month for the 1992 Vanity Fair article she wrote which vilified her and husband Kurt Cobain and suggested they were unfit parents.

Now a New York Times columnist, Lynn Hirschberg hit the headlines herself in May when M.I.A. listed her direct phone number and criticised her in the lyrics of an online tune after the writer penned an unflattering profile piece about the hip-hop star.

And it wasn't the first time Hirschberg has upset a music star - Love has lashed out at her in a new Behind The Music special.

Rapper M.I.A. is "baffled" by the controversy surrounding her video for new single Born Free - joking that Justin Bieber's promos are "more violent" than her own clip.

The footage shows military police rounding up red-headed boys in a series of violent raids, transporting them to a remote desert location and then forcing them to run through a minefield. The survivors are then shown being beaten to death. The video was immediately banned by bosses at YouTube.com for its graphic violence and nudity, but the Paper Planes hit-maker can't understand why the film has caused so much outrage.

There Is Little Originality With Lady Gaga's Shtick, Except She's A White Woman

May 10th, 2010 11:21am EDT
Lady Gaga
It is hard to believe that in two short years, Lady Gaga has gone from being an underground artist in New York City, trying to find her way after graduating from a prestigious prep school, to an internationally known pop-culture icon. In China, "OMLG" (Oh my Lady Gaga!) has replaced "OMG."

Her popularity has less to do with the quality of her music (as fun and danceable as it is) and more to do with her audacious image and the fact that she considers herself a "performance artist." And boy, does she commit. There is never a time when we see her out of costume, not playing the part that she...

Rapper/singer M.I.A. has blasted critics who compare her to Lady Gaga - because she doesn't think the pop star is very original.

The Paper Planes hit-maker is impressed by the singer's ability to "mimic" her heroes but insists Gaga hasn't done enough to establish herself as an innovator.

M.I.A. tells Britain's NME, "People say we're similar, that we both mix all these things (influences) in the pot and spit them out differently, but she spits it out exactly the same! Because they think fashionistas will b...
