Various ArtistsWe Three Kings Release Date 2001 Label Artists Only! Rating: ![]() This album is split three ways between one singer and two DJs, an interesting configuration that works better than one might expect. For one thing, the juxtapositions are nice: Luciano's sweet cultural crooning is nicely offset by the rough-and-ready chatting of Sizzla, while Anthony B.'s richer-voiced declamations occupy a neat middle ground. Not surprisingly, the three Luciano tracks are the album's highlights, in particular the beautiful &"Come Away." Sizzla distinguishes himself with the surreal cultural dancehall workout &"Render Your Heart," on which he lapses into a creepy falsetto on the chorus, while Anthony B. is at his best on the bracing &"Bobo Dread" anthem &"Bobo Cloth." Most of the rhythms come courtesy of the Firehouse Crew and are predictably hard and heavy. Recommended. Rick Anderson, Rovi |
